Massive Earthquake in Russia gives rise to Tsunami situations in Japan & other countries

Several regions in Japan have been severely affected by a tsunami, with the country's Pacific coastal areas bearing the brunt of the impact, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. Although the waves did not reach catastrophic heights, the situation remains serious.

The tsunami followed a powerful earthquake that struck Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday (Indian time), registering a magnitude of 8.8 on the Richter scale. Shortly after the quake, a tsunami hit parts of Russia, and its effects were also felt in Japan. Additionally, tsunami warnings have been issued for countries including China, Peru, and Ecuador.

According to Japanese authorities, the port of Ishinomaki experienced the strongest impact of the tsunami. As the waves moved southward along the Pacific coast, 16 other locations also reported being hit by the surging waters.

From Wednesday morning (local time), tsunami waves began striking several coastal areas of Japan. Authorities have started evacuating residents from vulnerable regions, with nearly 900,000 people already moved to safety. Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stated that he is closely monitoring the situation, and the government has formed an emergency task force to respond to the disaster.

The tsunami alert has disrupted transportation services across Japan. Road traffic is significantly reduced compared to normal days. Ferry services between Hokkaido and Aomori, located in the northern part of Honshu island, have been suspended. Additionally, ferries connecting Tokyo with nearby islands have also been temporarily halted.

The impact extends beyond ferries—train and air services have also been affected. Several train routes have been suspended, while others are experiencing delays. Flights at Sendai Airport have been temporarily grounded as part of the emergency response to the ongoing threat.
