EngW win 5th T20I thriller, India W win series 3-2
India’s women’s cricket team is currently touring England alongside the men’s team. The final match of the thrilling five-match T20I series was played this past Saturday in Birmingham, and it turned out to be a nail-biting contest. Despite a narrow defeat on the last ball of the final over, Team India created history by clinching the series 3-2. This marks India’s first-ever bilateral T20I series win on English soil.
In the fifth T20I, India’s young opener Shafali Verma delivered a blistering performance. Batting at a strike rate of 182.93, she smashed 75 runs off just 41 balls, hitting 13 fours and a six. However, her explosive innings wasn't enough to secure a win for India in the decider.
The match was played at Edgbaston, where England won the toss and opted to bowl first. India posted a competitive total of 167 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Apart from Shafali Verma, no other batter made a significant contribution. England’s most effective bowler was Charlie Dean, who claimed 3 wickets.
England chased down the target of 168 on the very last delivery of the match. Danni Wyatt top-scored with 56 runs, while Sophia Dunkley added a valuable 46. Captain Tammy Beaumont also contributed 30 runs. For India, Deepti Sharma and Arundhati Reddy picked up two wickets each, while Radha Yadav took one.
