Rybakina outclasses Sabalenka to win her 1st Australia Open & 2nd Grand Slam

Elena Rybakina claimed her maiden Australian Open title and the second Grand Slam crown of her career, defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling women’s singles final. The Kazakh star prevailed 6–4, 4–6, 6–4 in a pulsating contest that lasted 2 hours and 18 minutes, marking her first major triumph in Melbourne and her first Grand Slam victory in nearly three and a half years.

The decisive moment came in the third set, when Rybakina found herself trailing 0–3. Showing remarkable composure and mental resilience, she responded with a stunning run of five consecutive games with breathtaking returns , completely turning the momentum in her favour. From that point on, she barely allowed Sabalenka a foothold in the match, sealing the title with a display of fearless and controlled tennis.

Although Sabalenka looked slightly subdued in the closing stages, she had been superb in the 2nd set . The Belarusian actually led Rybakina in key serving statistics, registering more aces, fewer double faults, and a higher first-serve percentage. Yet, when the pressure peaked in the deciding set, it was Sabalenka who faltered & could not handle the scorching service & returns of Rybakina. After losing her second service game, she suddenly lost rhythm and confidence, allowing Rybakina to seize the initiative.

Rybakina, calm and clinical in the first set that she won with a single decisive break  , did not let the opportunity slip. By capitalising on her opponent’s lapse and maintaining her own composure, she emerged as the new Australian Open women’s singles champion, adding another prestigious chapter to her growing legacy.

After winning the Wimbledon in 2022 , Rybakina  had her ups & downs in the last 4 years and missed winning many crucial matches due to choking at crucial moments after dominating in many of those matches. She lost to Sabalenka in the 2023 Australia Open fìnal after looking good in major part of that 3 setter duel but on this day she showed great mental resilience to stage that decisive comeback in the 3rd set & won in style . Rybakina has won all her last 10 duels against top 10 ranked players in the womens circuit which showcases her growth in recent months. Always hailed for her calm demeanor under pressure situations Rybakina was on a mission in this Australia open &  in coming months & years she is expected to be a major force in womens tennis
