Delhi Capitals bowling decimates all conquering RCB who suffers 1st loss in WPL26
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, led by Smriti Mandhana, suffered their first defeat in the Women’s Premier League as they went down by seven wickets against Jemimah Rodrigues’ Delhi Capitals. Batting first, Bengaluru managed to score only 109 runs, while Delhi chased down the target comfortably with 111 for 3 in 15.4 overs.
After winning the toss, Jemimah opted to field. On the 22-yard pitch in Vadodara, Bengaluru failed to make the most of the opportunity to bat first. Apart from captain Mandhana, none of the batters could stand up to Delhi’s bowling attack. Wickets fell at regular intervals. Opener Grace Harris was dismissed for 9, followed by Georgia Voll (11), Gautami Naik (3), Richa Ghosh (5), Nadine de Klerk (5) and Arundhati Reddy (2).
Mandhana fought a lone battle, holding one end together. She scored 38 runs off 34 balls, hitting six fours and one six. Radha Yadav provided some support with an 18-run knock off 17 balls, but it was not enough to lift the total.
Delhi’s bowlers shared the spoils. Nandini Sharma was the most successful with 3 wickets for 26 runs. Marizanne Kapp picked up 2 wickets for 17 runs, Minnu Mani took 2 for 18, Chinelle Henry claimed 2 for 22, and Shree Charani chipped in with 1 wicket for 14 runs.
Chasing a modest target of 110, Delhi also got off to a shaky start as openers Shafali Verma (16) and Lizelle Lee (6) were dismissed early. At 24 for 2, the responsibility fell on Laura Wolvaardt and captain Jemimah Rodrigues to steady the innings. Jemimah scored 24 runs off 26 balls, including four boundaries, before getting out.
Wolvaardt then took charge and guided Delhi to victory, supported by Kapp. Wolvaardt remained unbeaten on 42 off 38 balls, hitting four fours and a six, while Kapp stayed not out on 19 off 15 balls with three boundaries.
For Bengaluru, Sayali Satghare was the most successful bowler with 2 wickets for 18 runs, while Radha Yadav took 1 wicket for 10 runs.
With this loss, Bengaluru remain on 10 points from six matches. Delhi, on the other hand, moved up to second place in the points table with 6 points from six matches.
