RCB Storm into WPL Final After Dominant Win Over UP Warriorz

After losing two matches in a row, Royal Challengers Bangalore bounced back in style to secure a place in the Women’s Premier League final. In their final group match, RCB defeated UP Warriorz convincingly, with Smriti Mandhana leading from the front.

Batting first, UP Warriorz were restricted to 143 for 8 in 20 overs. In reply, Bangalore chased down the target in just 13.1 overs, winning by eight wickets. Both Grace Harris and Mandhana scored half-centuries, playing key roles in the victory.

Having won their first five matches, RCB needed just one more win from their last three games to qualify for the final. However, defeats in the previous two matches had delayed their progress. On Thursday, they finally returned to winning ways, with Grace Harris emerging as the standout performer with both bat and ball. She took two wickets and then smashed 75 runs in the chase.

UP started well with the bat. With Phoebe Litchfield ruled out due to injury, captain Meg Lanning opened alongside Deepti Sharma. The pair added 74 runs in eight overs, giving UP a strong platform. Bangalore made a comeback through Nadine de Klerk, who dismissed Lanning for 41 on the first ball of the ninth over and also removed Amy Jones in the same over.

UP never fully recovered from those double blows. Wickets kept falling in the middle overs, and although Deepti scored a fighting 55, she received little support from the other batters. De Klerk finished with excellent figures of 4 for 22. Grace Harris also chipped in with important wickets, including those of Harleen Deol and Chloe Tryon. Lauren Bell and Shreyanka Patil took one wicket each.

Chasing 144, Bangalore played with confidence but without unnecessary risk. Grace Harris attacked from the very first ball, hitting a boundary to begin the innings. None of the UP bowlers, including experienced spinner Sophie Ecclestone, could stop her flow of runs. Harris eventually fell for 75 off just 37 balls, having hit 13 fours and two sixes. By then, RCB were already close to victory.

Mandhana completed the job in style, scoring an unbeaten 54 off 27 balls. She hit eight fours and two sixes, finishing the match with a boundary. RCB won with 41 balls to spare.

With 12 points from eight matches, Bangalore are comfortably on top of the table and will now get a week’s rest before the final. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz remain at the bottom of the points table. Their qualification chances depend on a series of big wins in the remaining matches, otherwise they will exit the tournament early.
