Starc silences India with 6 wkts as Aussies dominate India on day 1 of 2nd test

 


Michelle Starc slienced the critics and a few young Indian batters with a brilliant bowling performance as Australia strugged off their Perth test jitters to dominate on day one of the all important 2nd test at Adelaide 

On the first day of play, India struggled with their batting in the first innings, managing to score only 180 runs. None of the batsmen were able to deliver a notable performance. By the end of the day, Australia had scored 86 runs in their first innings while losing just one wicket. McSweeney and Labuschagne both of whom batted sensibly and with solidity to negotiate the tricky period under lights  are currently at the crease 


Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. Opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed on the very first ball of the innings when Starc's delivery swung and hit him in line with the leg stump . His partner KL Rahul scored 37 runs and survived a catch off a no ball and a dropped chance early before falling to Mitchell Starc caught at gully . Virat Kohli, who came in at number four, managed only 7 runs as he nicked to the slips outside off to Starc who was already causing havoc . Shubman Gill contributed a sparkling 31 runs but was lbw to Boland , while Rishabh Pant scored 21 before he fended at a fast lifting ball from Cummins to be snapped up in the slips . Rohit Sharma added just 3 runs to the total before falling lbw to Boland . Among others, Nitish Reddy made a valuable contribution of 42 runs as he played several breathtaking shots that are seen in T20 cricket . The tail didnt wag as Ashwin was lbw to an inswinging yorker from Starc who soon bowled Harshit Rana while Bumrah was caught in the slips off Cummins . As a result, India was bowled out for 180 in their first innings.


Australia’s fast bowler Mitchell Starc was the standout performer, claiming six wickets in the innings. He dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal first, followed by KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. Later, he also took the wickets of Nitish Reddy, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Harshit Rana, showcasing his dominance with the ball.


By stumps on the first day, Australia had scored 86 runs for the loss of one wicket. Nathan Mcsweeney is unbeaten on 38, while Marnus Labuschagne has scored 20 as both batted solidly and with application. India managed to take just one wicket, with Jasprit Bumrah dismissing Usman Khawaja. Australia will resume their innings on the second day, trailing by 94 runs.
