Man arrested for Defrauding Software Engineer of ₹1.35 Lakh in Jodhpur in Online Scam
Cyber Crime rampant in India has raised its head again as Indore police have apprehended a Jodhpur resident, Vikram Bishnoi, for allegedly swindling ₹1.35 lakh from a software engineer through an elaborate online fraud.
According to Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya, the victim filed a complaint on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) after being duped by fraudsters posing as representatives of a courier service. The victim reported receiving a call from an individual claiming a parcel he sent from Delhi to Bangkok contained illegal substances.
The caller escalated the matter by connecting the victim to accomplices pretending to be police officers and officials from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Under the guise of avoiding legal consequences, they coerced the victim into transferring ₹1.35 lakh to specific bank accounts. Realizing the scam after consulting a friend, the victim lodged a police complaint.
The Indore Crime Branch promptly launched an investigation and tracked down the suspect. "The accused, Vikram Bishnoi, confessed to his involvement and revealed he was part of a larger network orchestrating such online frauds. He earned a commission for his role in the scam," Dandotiya stated.
The authorities have frozen all bank accounts linked to the fraud and are working to identify other members of the gang. Further investigation is ongoing.
