 Joel Garner, also known as "Big Bird" for his towering 6'8" frame, was born on December 16, 1952, in Christ Church, Barbados. He is regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history, known for his remarkable accuracy, steep bounce, and devastating yorkers. Garner’s ability to exploit his height and bowl lethal deliveries made him a nightmare for batsmen across the globe.

In the final against England, he delivered an unforgettable spell, taking 5/38, including four wickets in a single over, to seal the title for his team. His overall World Cup performance was extraordinary, with an economy rate of just 3.09 across tournaments. 


2. Test Cricket Dominance: 

Garner formed a fearsome pace quartet alongside Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding, and Andy Roberts, which dominated world cricket in the 1970s and 1980s. His relentless accuracy and bounce made him virtually unplayable, especially on fast, bouncy tracks.


 3. County Cricket: Garner was a key player for Somerset in English county cricket, helping the team win several domestic titles. His deadly spells were crucial in Somerset’s victories in the Gillette Cup and the Benson & Hedges Cup.

 Garner’s 6/56 against Pakistan in Karachi in 1980 is one of his finest Test performances, where he dismantled a strong batting lineup.
