Australia levels test series in style with 10 win over India in Pink ball test
India narrowly avoided an innings defeat but couldn’t escape humiliation under Rohit Sharma’s leadership. Thanks to Nitish Kumar Reddy’s 42-run innings, India set a mere 19-run target for Australia. The visitors chased it down effortlessly without losing a wicket. With this victory, Pat Cummins and his team maintained their unbeaten record in day-night Tests at Adelaide, winning all eight matches played there. India’s second innings folded for 175 runs, with the match wrapping up in just 171.2 overs—less than two full days of play, considering 90 overs per day. This became the shortest Test match between India and Australia in terms of duration.
India’s defeat was almost inevitable by the end of Day 2, with only five wickets in hand and 29 runs needed to avoid the innings loss. Nitish scored those runs but couldn’t take the team to a competitive position. Australia chased the 19-run target with ease as their openers, Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney, faced no trouble from the Indian bowlers. Khawaja remained unbeaten on 9, while McSweeney scored 10 not out.
India’s struggle began in the very first over of Day 3 when Rishabh Pant (28) was dismissed by Starc , caught in the slips . Nitish, playing only his second Test, fought hard with a gritty 42, which included six sparkling fours and a six. However, he found no support from the other end. Ravichandran Ashwin (7), Harshit Rana (0), Mohammed Siraj (7), and Jasprit Bumrah (2*) failed to make an impact as the Indian lower order succumbled to Cummins bouncer barrage . The Indian team, including seniors like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, seemed unprepared for the challenging conditions. Their inability to adapt to unfamiliar situations continues to be a concern. Both batters and bowlers struggled to cope with the pink ball, highlighting the need for better performances, especially in overseas conditions. Without impactful contributions, experience counts for little.
Australia’s bowling attack was spearheaded by captain Pat Cummins, who claimed 5 wickets for 57 runs. Mitchell Starc chipped in with 2 wickets for 60 runs, while Scott Boland picked up 3 for 51. With this win, the five-match series is now tied 1-1. The third Test is set to begin on December 15.
