Yoga : Ardha Chandrasana ( half moon pose ) Steps to perform
Ardha Chandrasana, commonly known as the Half Moon Pose, is a standing yoga posture that combines strength, balance, and flexibility. Derived from Sanskrit, "Ardha" means half, and "Chandra" refers to the moon, symbolizing calmness and balance. This pose is beneficial for improving focus, core strength, and stability while stretching the body.
Steps to Perform Ardha Chandrasana
1. Starting Position:
Begin in Trikonasana (Triangle Pose) on your right side. Keep your right hand on your shin, ankle, or the floor beside your right foot.
2. Shift Your Weight:
Bend your right knee slightly and place your right hand a few inches in front of your right foot on the floor (or use a yoga block for support).
Shift your body weight onto your right foot as you prepare to lift your left leg.
3. Lift the Left Leg:
Straighten your right leg as you lift your left leg parallel to the floor or higher.
Flex the left foot and point the toes toward the side wall.
4. Open the Hips and Chest:
Turn your torso and hips open toward the left.
Extend your left arm upward, creating a straight line from the left hand to the right hand.
5. Balance and Focus:
Gaze at your left hand or look down at the floor if balancing is challenging.
Keep your core engaged and maintain steady, even breathing.
6. Hold the Pose:
Stay in the pose for 15–30 seconds, focusing on balance and alignment.
7. Return to Starting Position:
Slowly lower your left leg to the floor and return to Trikonasana. Repeat on the opposite side.
Tips for Beginners
Use a yoga block under your bottom hand for additional support.
Practice near a wall for stability if you're new to balancing poses.
