IndWvAusW : Schutt fifer destroys timid India in 1st ODI
India's two cricket teams are currently on tour in Australia. While the Indian men's team dominated the hosts in the first Test match, leaving the Australian side stunned, the women's team had a poor start to their campaign. Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian women's team was bowled out for a mere 100 runs in the first ODI on Thursday, which Australia chased down comfortably in just 16.2 overs.
In the first ODI played in Brisbane, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bat first, but the decision backfired. The Indian team lost vice-captain Smriti Mandhana (8) caught behind at a score of 9, triggering a collapse. The other opener Priya Punia (3) had a poor game . Harleen Deol played a few crisp shots before she fell to a catch at midoff & Harmanpreet was lbw for 17. Reduced to 62/4, Jemimah Rodrigues (23) and Richa Ghosh (14) managed to push the total to 89, offering a glimmer of hope for a respectable score. However, they were very subdued and team fell apart thereafter.
Jemimah Rodrigues, India's top scorer at 23 , was dismissed at a team score of 89, bowled by Schutt that triggered a collapse . The remaining six wickets fell for just 11 more runs.
The Indian innings folded at 100 in 34.2 overs. Apart from Jemimah, Harleen Deol (19) and Harmanpreet Kaur (17) were the only other notable contributors.
Australian Bowling Performance:
Australian pacer Megan Schutt was the standout performer, taking 5 wickets for just 19 runs in her 6.2 overs. Annabel Sutherland, Kim Garth, Ashleigh Gardner, and Alana King chipped in with a wicket each, while Deepti Sharma was run out.
Australia's Chase:
Chasing a modest target of 101, Australia faced little resistance. Openers Georgia Voll (46*) and Phoebe Litchfield (35) provided a strong start. Although India managed to take 5 quick wickets, it wasn't enough to stop Australia from clinching the win. Georgia Voll remained unbeaten, steering her team across the finish line.
Indian pacers Renuka Singh (3 wickets) and Priya Mishra (2 wickets) were the key bowlers for the visitors.
