IPL2026 Final: Kohli Reigns Again as RCB Clinch Back-to-Back IPL Titles; Suryavanshi Dominates Individual Honours

 


Royal Challengers Bengaluru cemented their place among the IPL's modern greats by defeating the Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the IPL 2026 final, securing a historic second consecutive championship. At the heart of the triumph stood the evergreen Virat Kohli, whose unbeaten 75 off 42 balls once again underlined why he remains the undisputed "King" of the franchise.

Having ended their long 18-year title drought in 2025, RCB have now transformed into a dominant force under the leadership of Rajat Patidar. While Patidar's astute captaincy has been instrumental in building a cohesive unit, it was Kohli who delivered the finishing touch, sealing victory with a trademark six to send the sea of red and gold supporters into celebration.

RCB Pacers Set the Tone

After winning the toss in Ahmedabad, Patidar elected to field first, a decision that paid immediate dividends. The experienced pace duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood strangled Gujarat's top order with disciplined bowling.

The Titans, heavily reliant on captain Shubman Gill and opener Sai Sudharsan, suffered a major setback when both departed cheaply. Sudharsan managed just 12 runs, while Gill fell for 10, leaving Gujarat struggling to build momentum.

Wickets kept falling as Nishant Sindhu (20) & Jos Buttler (19) could not extend their stand & once Buttler was dismissed the result of the final was pretty much sealed . 

Young pacer Rasikh Salam emerged as the surprise star, using clever variations of pace to claim three crucial wickets. Despite a gritty unbeaten fifty from Washington Sundar(50) , Gujarat could only muster 155/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Kohli Masters the Chase

RCB's chase began in explosive fashion as Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer launched a blistering assault on the Gujarat bowling attack. Iyer's rapid 32 from 16 deliveries provided the perfect platform, while Kohli looked in sublime touch from the outset.

The Bengaluru batters raced to 86 runs in the powerplay, putting the final firmly under their control. Gujarat briefly threatened a comeback when veteran spinner Rashid Khan struck twice in the ninth over, dismissing Patidar and Krunal Pandya.

Yet with Kohli at the crease, panic never entered the RCB dressing room. Displaying his trademark composure, the legendary batter rotated the strike expertly, punished loose deliveries, and brought up a fluent half-century from just 25 balls. Supported by a valuable cameo from Tim David(24) , Kohli guided his side to the target before emphatically finishing the match with a towering six.

His unbeaten 75 ensured that RCB reached 161/5 and lifted the trophy once again, completing a remarkable era of dominance.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Extraordinary Season

Meanwhile although Rajasthan Royals fell short of the title, the IPL 2026 season will be remembered as the tournament of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The 15-year-old prodigy produced one of the most astonishing campaigns in IPL history, combining fearless strokeplay with unprecedented consistency.

Suryavanshi amassed 776 runs at an average of 48.50 and an astonishing strike rate of 237. He smashed 72 sixes during the season, won four Player of the Match awards, and narrowly missed multiple centuries, including scores of 97 and 96 in the playoffs.
