West Indies fight hard in 2nd innings after made to follow on , Kuldeep 1st innings 5 wickets

India piled up a massive 518 runs in their first innings, powered by centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. In reply, despite some resistance, West Indies were bowled out for 248 and failed to avoid the follow-on, trailing by 270 runs. Indian captain Shubman Gill enforced the follow-on, but the West Indies showed great fighting spirit in their second innings. At stumps on Day 3, they reached 173 for 2, still trailing by 97 runs.

The day began with West Indies resuming their first innings, but they quickly ran into trouble. In the first hour of play, they lost four wickets in quick succession, collapsing from 140 to 175. Shai Hope scored 36, but his teammates Tevin Imlach (21) and Justin Greaves (17) disappointed. Khary Pierre (23) offered some resistance, while Anderson Phillip (24) and Jayden Seales (13) fought hard to help the visitors reach 248, avoiding an even worse collapse. Despite their late resistance, West Indies were still 270 runs behind, forcing them to follow on.

In their second innings, West Indies got off to another shaky start. By tea, they were 35 for 2. Mohammed Siraj removed Tagenarine Chanderpaul for 10, caught by Gill off a mistimed pull shot — a sharp catch by the Indian skipper. A few overs later, Washington Sundar bowled Alick Athanaze for 7.

However, the next phase of play belonged entirely to West Indies openers John Campbell and Shai Hope. The duo showed tremendous grit against India’s strong spin attack. Campbell remained unbeaten on 87 off 145 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes, while Hope stood firm at 66 not out, laced with eight fours and two sixes. On a turning Delhi pitch, the pair handled Jadeja, Kuldeep, and Washington with maturity — defending solidly while punishing loose deliveries.

For the first time in the series, the Caribbean side looked resilient and composed. Roston Chase’s men now need just 98 more runs to make India bat again and avoid an innings defeat.

At the close of Day 3, West Indies were 173 for 2, with a 138-run unbeaten partnership between Campbell and Hope. Though India still lead by 97 runs, captain Shubman Gill will have some worries heading into Day 4. If India fail to pick up early wickets, the match could take an unexpected turn. Kuldeep Yadav will once again be key to triggering a collapse, but he’ll need support from the rest of the attack — otherwise, India might find themselves batting on a crumbling Delhi pitch in the fourth innings.
