India win test series vs West Indies 2-0 - Jadeja player of the series

A perfect start to the Shubman Gill era on home soil. Under Gill’s captaincy, India pocketed the series 2–0 against the West Indies. However, the team’s position in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings remains unchanged. At the start of the series, India were placed third, and even after winning both matches, they continue to hold the third spot on the WTC points table.

After a dominant victory by an innings and 140 runs in Ahmedabad, Team India earned 12 points. They added another 12 with a seven-wicket win in Delhi, taking their total haul from the series to 24 points. So far in the current WTC cycle, India have played seven matches—winning four, losing two, and drawing one—to accumulate a total of 52 points.

Although the series win didn’t alter India’s ranking, it significantly boosted their points percentage. After the Ahmedabad Test, India’s points percentage stood at 55.56%. Following the Delhi win, it has risen to 61.9%. Notably, qualification for the World Test Championship final is determined by points percentage, so Gill’s men have moved several steps closer despite no change in rank.

In the second Test, Roston Chase and his side set India a target of 121 runs. The hosts lost three wickets in the chase, but KL Rahul’s (58*)  composed half-century guided India home while Sai Sudharsan scored 39 . Rahul finished as the second-highest run-scorer of the series, while Yashasvi Jaiswal topped the chart with 219 runs. Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler, claiming 12 wickets.

Up next, India will face reigning Test champions South Africa at home next month. Given how the West Indies managed to trouble India at times, head coach Gautam Gambhir may well have a few concerns to address before taking on the Proteas.
