Team India Crushes West Indies by an Innings and 140 Runs in a hopelessly one sided Contest

After a tough overseas campaign, Team India returned home with renewed determination—and what followed in Ahmedabad was sheer domination. Compared to the fierce battles abroad, the West Indies appeared a much easier opponent. Once feared as the “giants” of world cricket, the Caribbeans now looked more like “Lilliputians.” By the end of Day 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, India’s victory was already a foregone conclusion. It didn’t even take half of Day 3 for the hosts to wrap up proceedings, crushing the visitors by an innings and 140 runs. This marked a dream start to captain Shubman Gill’s Test leadership on home soil.

The match was completely one-sided. The once-mighty West Indies looked helpless against India’s relentless dominance. After managing only 162 runs in their first innings, the visitors watched as India piled up 448 for 5 declared, taking a massive 286-run lead. Centuries from KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja sealed India’s control. Early on Day 3, Gill declared the innings, leaving no doubt about the result—only how quickly India could finish it.

If the pacers had been lethal in the first innings, the spinners stole the show in the second. The surface had begun to turn sharply, and the red soil pitch offered generous assistance. For the Caribbean batters, it was a nightmare. “Sir” Jadeja exploited the conditions brilliantly, claiming 4 wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj provided excellent support.

At lunch on Day 3, West Indies were tottering at 66 for 5. The writing was on the wall. Despite brief resistance from Alick Athanaze (38) and Justin Greaves (25), the collapse soon resumed. Washington Sundar broke the stand, Siraj dismissed Greaves, and India’s fielding was razor-sharp—highlighted by a stunning catch from Nitish Reddy at square leg that sent Tagenarine Chanderpaul back. Siraj finished with 3 wickets, while Kuldeep wrapped up the innings at 146 all out.

For India, this emphatic win carried special significance. Their last home Test series, in October 2024 against New Zealand, had ended in humiliation, followed by a disappointing tour of Australia. But under new captain Shubman Gill, the team looks revitalized. After drawing the series in England, “New India” has now started its home season with a commanding victory—their first Test win in 368 days.

A new era of Indian Test cricket seems well and truly underway.
