India on Verge of Series Sweep Despite West Indies’ Gritty Fightback in Delhi Test

India are on the brink of a 2–0 series sweep after a spirited fightback from the West Indies stretched the second Test in Delhi into the fifth day. Set a modest target of 121, India closed Day 4 at 63 for 1, needing just 58 more runs to seal victory on Tuesday morning.

Yashasvi Jaiswal fell while trying to accelerate, but KL Rahul (25*) and Sai Sudharsan (30*) steadied the innings to take India within touching distance of a comfortable win.

Earlier, the West Indies showed rare determination after being forced to follow on. At stumps on Day 3, they were 173 for 3, and on the fourth day, their resistance continued through the patient efforts of John Campbell and Shai Hope. The pair negotiated the Indian attack confidently before Ravindra Jadeja broke through, dismissing Campbell for a resilient 115 off 199 balls, studded with 12 fours and 3 sixes. Hope followed soon after for 103, caught off Mohammed Siraj.

Justin Greaves (50) and Jayden Seales (32) added crucial lower-order runs as the visitors posted 390 in their second innings — a commendable recovery after being asked to follow on. Among Indian bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets each, while Siraj claimed two.

India’s bowlers had been in action for nearly two and a half days straight — a point that has drawn some debate over captain Shubman Gill’s decision to enforce the follow-on. While some see it as a display of confidence, others have questioned whether it reflected a touch of overconfidence.

In the first innings, India had declared at a commanding 518 for 5, before bundling out the West Indies for 248. Despite the Caribbean resilience in the second innings, India remain heavy favourites to complete the job on the final day and finish the series with another emphatic win.
