Australia Clinch ODI Series as India’s bowling falters in Adelaide

With one match still to play, India suffered a series defeat on Australian soil after another batting collapse — this time in Adelaide. Much like in Perth, the Men in Blue struggled to find momentum with the bat, managing 264 runs after being sent in to bat first. Australia, in contrast, chased down the target well to seal the series win.

For Indian skipper Shubman Gill, the day began with yet another stroke of bad luck — his 17th consecutive loss at the toss. Put into bat under challenging conditions, India found it tough on a damp surface that had been affected by heavy rain over the past two days, giving Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood plenty of assistance with the new ball.

Rohit Sharma tried to steady the innings with a cautious start, but Gill departed early for just 9, attempting to counterattack. Virat Kohli’s lean patch continued, dismissed for a duck for the second consecutive match falling lbw to Xavier Bartlett .

Rohit (73 off 97 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (61 off 77) rebuilt the innings with a solid partnership. Rohit after settling down unleashed his wide range of shots to capyivate the big crowd . Shreyas loooked in good nick too after a poor outing at Perth .  Later Axar Patel added a useful 44 down the order. Towards the end, Harshit Rana (28)  and Arshdeep Singh contributed a fighting 37-run stand for the ninth wicket, taking India to 264.

Australia were briefly in trouble at 54 for 2 after losing Mitchell Marsh (11)  and Travis Head (28) , but Matthew Short’s composed 74 turned the tide. Dropped twice Short played several powerful shots in his solid partnership with Matt Renshaw (30) who looked in confident nick . India briefly hot back in the game with the wickets of Renshaw , Carey (9) & Short . However Cooper Connolly and Mitchell Owen got into a rapid partnership as both batters unleashed several explosive hits . Owen (36) finally was dismissed after a rapid knock & Bartlett played a reckless shot to again bring India back in the game . Starc was dismissed cheaply too as India needed 2 wickets but with only few runs to get Connolly (61 not out)  closed down the match comfortably showing great composure under intense pressure thus  wrapping up the series 2–0 for Australia with one match remaining.

Indian bowlers did well in patches but leaked runs at other times . One still wonders why Kuldeep Yadav is not yet played

The teams will meet again in Sydney on Saturday for the final ODI — a dead rubber, but one that will draw attention to Virat Kohli, as fans await a response from the Indian superstar after two rare failures.
