Alana King’s 7-Wicket Burst Powers Australia women to Dominant Win Over South Africa
The 26th match of the Women’s World Cup 2025 was played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, where Australia outclassed South Africa by 7 wickets thanks to a sensational spell from Alana King.
Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. Their decision proved perfect as South Africa’s innings collapsed for just 97 runs in 24 overs. Captain Laura Wolvaardt top-scored with 31 runs off 26 balls, followed by Sinalo Jafta (29 off 17) and Nadine de Klerk (14 off 23). None of the other batters managed to reach double figures as Australia’s bowlers dominated proceedings.
Alana King’s Magical Spell
Right-arm leg-spinner Alana King delivered one of the most devastating bowling performances of the tournament. She bowled 7 overs, including 2 maidens, conceding only 18 runs and taking 7 wickets. Her sharp turn and flight left the South African batters clueless. Megan Schutt, Kim Garth, and Ashleigh Gardner chipped in with one wicket each.
Australia Chase with Ease
Chasing a modest target of 98, Australia reached the total comfortably in 16.5 overs, losing just 3 wickets.
Georgia Voll scored a fluent 38 off 38 balls, while Beth Mooney contributed 42 runs off 41 balls. Annabel Sutherland remained unbeaten on 10 off 4 balls, guiding her team home. Phoebe Litchfield (5) and Ellyse Perry (0) were the only early casualties.
Both Teams Already Through to Semifinals
Both Australia and South Africa had already qualified for the semifinals prior to this match, so the result had no major bearing on the standings. With this win, Australia finished on 13 points, retaining the top spot, while South Africa ended second with 10 points. England (9 points) sit third and India (6 points) are fourth, each with one game remaining. However, the remaining matches are unlikely to alter the semifinal lineup.
Thus it will be England vs South Africa in the first semi final at Guwahati & the highly awaited India vs Australia clash in the 2nd semi final at Navi Mumbai
