Jemima , Yastika powers India women to 7 wkt win over England in 1st T20I

At Chelmsford, the Indian women produced a statement performance to outclass England by 38 runs in the opening T20I and take a 1-0 lead in the series. After being rocked early at 7/2 by Lauren Bell’s fiery first over, India showed remarkable character as Jemimah Rodrigues and Yastika Bhatia rebuilt the innings with a magnificent 126-run partnership.

Returning to the T20I side after nearly two years, Yastika played with fearless intent, striking a classy 54, while Jemimah dazzled with a fluent 69 off 40 balls, mixing elegant timing with aggressive strokeplay. Their counterattack completely shifted momentum after England’s dream start. Deepti Sharma then added a valuable late cameo to push India to a formidable 188/7.

England’s chase never truly gathered sustained momentum despite Amy Jones fighting hard with a spirited 67. Kranti Gaud struck early to remove Sophia Dunkley, and debutant Nandani Sharma impressed with three crucial wickets, constantly breaking England’s rhythm. India’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding ensured the hosts finished on 150/8.

The match belonged to Jemimah Rodrigues, whose fearless innings rescued India from early trouble and earned her the Player of the Match award. The victory also highlighted India’s growing depth ahead of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, with youngsters and returnees stepping up brilliantly under pressure.
