IPL2026 : Archer’s All-Round Brilliance Powers Rajasthan Into Playoffs With 30-Run Win Over Mumbai
A sensational all-round performance from Jofra Archer guided Rajasthan Royals to a commanding 30-run victory over Mumbai Indians at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The win sealed Rajasthan’s place in the IPL playoffs, while Mumbai’s disappointing campaign ended in frustration despite fighting knocks from Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya.
Asked to bat first, Rajasthan posted an imposing 205/8 in 20 overs after recovering from a shaky start. Yashasvi Jaiswal provided early momentum with a brisk 27 off 17 balls, peppering the boundary ropes with elegant strokeplay before falling to Will Jacks. Youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi struggled for rhythm and departed for just 4, while captain Riyan Parag continued his poor run with another failure, scoring only 14. Rajasthan slipped to 54/3 inside the powerplay.
The innings was rebuilt by Dasun Shanaka and Dhruv Jurel. Shanaka looked particularly aggressive against the Mumbai spinners, smashing several clean hits and appearing set for a big score. However, a needless run-out cut short his promising innings at 29. Jurel chipped in with a valuable 38 before being bowled by Corbin Bosch. With wickets tumbling regularly, Rajasthan were reduced to 139/6 and seemed unlikely to cross 180.
That was when Archer completely transformed the game. The England pacer produced a blistering cameo of 32 off just 15 balls, injecting crucial momentum into the innings. Late contributions from Ravindra Jadeja (19 off 11) and Nandre Burger (10 off 3) pushed Rajasthan beyond the 200-run mark.
Chasing 206, Mumbai suffered a disastrous start. Archer struck in the very first over, dismissing Rohit Sharma for a duck to cap off another underwhelming season for the former captain. Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir also failed to make an impact, while Tilak Varma departed cheaply. Mumbai were reeling at 38/4 inside six overs, staring at a humiliating defeat.
Just when the match seemed to be slipping away, Suryakumar and Will Jacks launched a spirited counterattack. Suryakumar, who had endured a quiet IPL season, finally rediscovered his touch in the final league match. Rajasthan’s fielders dropped crucial chances, and the stylish batter capitalized fully, reaching his half-century in 32 balls — his first IPL fifty in ten innings.
Jacks added a quickfire 33 off 18 balls before falling to Yashraj Punj, ending a crucial 63-run partnership. Pandya then arrived with fearless intent. After surviving an early dropped catch, the Mumbai skipper unleashed a flurry of boundaries and raced to 30 runs in his first nine deliveries. His aggressive strokeplay dramatically lifted Mumbai’s scoring rate and briefly revived hopes of an unlikely chase.
With 59 required from the final five overs and both Suryakumar and Pandya at the crease, the contest was still alive. Rajasthan captain Parag turned to his trump card Archer, and the fast bowler delivered once again. He removed Pandya for a blazing 34 off 15 balls, effectively crushing Mumbai’s momentum. Archer finished with outstanding figures of 3/17 in four overs to go with his explosive batting effort.
Mumbai’s final hopes rested on Suryakumar, but once Burger dismissed him for 60, the chase lost all direction. The five-time champions eventually collapsed to 175/9, handing Rajasthan a memorable 30-run victory and a well-deserved playoff berth.
