IPL2026 : Rohit-Rickelton Blitz Powers Mumbai Indians to 6-Wicket Win Over LSG
Mumbai Indians returned to winning ways on Monday with a commanding six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants. Making a comeback from injury, Rohit Sharma led from the front with a fluent knock, well supported by Ryan Rickelton. Their aggressive batting overshadowed a blistering innings from Nicholas Pooran.
Put in to bat first, Lucknow posted an imposing 229/4. However, Mumbai chased down the target with eight balls to spare.
Mumbai were without regular captain Hardik Pandya due to illness, with Suryakumar Yadav stepping in as stand-in skipper. He opted to bowl first and confirmed Rohit’s return to the playing XI. Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant included Josh Inglis and handed a debut to Akash Raghubanshi.
Inglis showed early promise with a quick 13 off 5 balls but failed to convert his start. The innings was then anchored by Mitchell Marsh and Pooran. Marsh initially took charge, while Pooran, batting at his preferred No. 3 position, soon unleashed a brutal assault. He smashed three sixes in an over off Will Jacks and continued his onslaught against other bowlers. Pooran raced to a 16-ball fifty before eventually falling for a sensational 63 off 21 balls (1 four, 8 sixes), ending a 94-run partnership. Marsh contributed a steady 44.
Pant struggled again, scoring just 15 off 10 balls, while debutant Raghubanshi added 11 off 7. Late contributions from Aiden Markram (31* ) and Himmat Singh (40* ) propelled Lucknow past the 200-mark.
Chasing 229, Mumbai’s openers came out all guns blazing. Rickelton, who had missed out in the previous game, made amends in style, while Rohit provided ideal support. The duo tore apart the Lucknow bowling attack, adding a massive 143 runs for the opening wicket.
Rickelton hammered 83 off just 32 balls (6 fours, 8 sixes), while Rohit looked set for a century on his return before falling for 84 off 44 balls (6 fours, 7 sixes).
Despite a brief middle-order wobble—where Suryakumar managed only 12 and Tilak Varma scored 11—Mumbai comfortably sealed the chase. Naman Dhir (23* ) and Will Jacks (10* ) ensured there were no further hiccups as Mumbai crossed the finish line with ease.
This emphatic win keeps Mumbai Indians firmly in the hunt as the tournament progresses.
