IPL2026 : Rahul Leads Delhi Capitals’ Record Chase as Parag’s Heroics Go in Vain

Delhi Capitals remain one of the most unpredictable sides this season—never quite sure which version will turn up. They had earlier lost despite scoring 264 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and were then bowled out for just 75 by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Yet, they bounced back in stunning fashion, chasing down 226 to defeat Rajasthan Royals, powered by a match-winning knock from KL Rahul.

The victory overshadowed a brilliant 90-run innings from Riyan Parag and marked Delhi’s highest successful run chase in Indian Premier League history.

Rajasthan posted a formidable 225 for 6 in 20 overs. Parag led the charge with a fluent 90 off 50 balls, while Donovan Ferreira smashed 47 off just 14 deliveries. Delhi, however, chased it down with five balls to spare, finishing at 226 for 7. Rahul anchored the innings with 75 off 40 balls, and Pathum Nissanka contributed a crucial 62 off 33.

Parag had been in the spotlight earlier due to a controversy during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he was fined for smoking in the dressing room. Though he avoided suspension, the incident drew criticism. He let his bat do the talking here, delivering a composed yet aggressive innings.

The much-anticipated face-off between young Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Mitchell Starc never truly materialized. Vaibhav didn’t face a ball in the first over and was later bowled for 4 by Kyle Jamieson. The animated celebration after dismissing the 15-year-old sparked some criticism.

Rajasthan lost early wickets, but Parag and Dhruv Jurel counterattacked effectively, adding 102 runs for the third wicket. Jurel made 42 off 30 before falling to Axar Patel. Parag continued his assault, finding support from Ravindra Jadeja, but Starc turned the game with a double strike, dismissing both set batters. Parag fell for 90, unable to convert his innings into a century.

Ferreira’s late blitz, featuring six sixes, propelled Rajasthan to a daunting total. Starc was the standout bowler for Delhi, picking up 3 for 40 in his four overs.

In reply, Delhi got off to a flying start through Nissanka and Rahul, taking on even the in-form Jofra Archer. The duo added 70 runs in the powerplay and built a 110-run opening stand. Nissanka brought up a well-crafted fifty before being dismissed for 62.

Rahul continued his excellent form, reaching his third fifty of the season, but fell for 75 while attempting a big shot. Nitish Rana chipped in with a quick 33 off 17 before being dismissed.

With 42 needed off the last 24 balls, the responsibility fell on Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma. Missing the presence of David Miller, the duo held their nerve. Stubbs remained unbeaten on 18 off 11, while Ashutosh finished the chase with a composed 25 off 15, guiding Delhi to a memorable win.
