Food : Vietnamese Sandwitch - how to prepare

A Vietnamese sandwich, Banh Mi, typically features a crusty baguette filled with pickled vegetables, protein like pork or tofu, and fresh herbs, offering a delicious blend of flavors and textures.

Here's a recipe for a classic Vietnamese sandwich, also known as Banh Mi:

Ingredients:

For the pickled vegetables:

- 1 large carrot, julienned

- 1 daikon radish, julienned

- 1/2 cup rice vinegar

- 1/2 cup water

- 2 tablespoons sugar

- 1 teaspoon salt

For the sandwich:

- Baguette or French bread rolls

- Mayonnaise

- Maggi sauce or soy sauce

- Sriracha or chili sauce (optional)

- Fresh cilantro leaves

- Thinly sliced cucumber

- Thinly sliced jalapeños (optional)

- Cooked protein of your choice (traditionally pork, but can also use chicken, beef, tofu, or cold cuts)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the pickled vegetables: In a small saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, water, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the sugar and salt dissolve. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

2. Place the julienned carrot and daikon radish in a clean jar or bowl. Pour the vinegar mixture over the vegetables, ensuring they are fully submerged. Let them pickle for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best flavor.

3. Slice the baguette or French bread rolls in half lengthwise, but not all the way through.

4. Spread a generous amount of mayonnaise on both sides of the bread.

5. If using, drizzle Maggi sauce or soy sauce on one side of the bread and Sriracha or chili sauce on the other side, according to taste.

6. Layer the sandwich with your choice of protein, pickled vegetables, cucumber slices, jalapeños (if using), and cilantro leaves.

7. Close the sandwich and press down gently to compact the ingredients.

8. If desired, you can wrap the sandwich in parchment paper or foil to make it easier to eat on the go.

9. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Vietnamese sandwich!

Feel free to customize the sandwich with your favorite ingredients and adjust the seasoning to your taste preferences.
