IPL24: Gujarat Titans script crucial win over below par Punjab Kings in low scoring game

 


 Punjab Kings stumble to another defeat after yet another timid batting performance .  They  struggled to score 142 runs.  But Punjab eventually lost against Gujarat Titans at home.  However the fight continued till the last over courtesy the fight put on by the Punjab bowlers .  Gujarat won by 3 wickets.



 Batting first, Punjab scored 142 runs.  They could not score big runs under the influence of Gujarat's spinners.  Shikhar Dhawan's injury is still not healed.  Sam Curran is leading in his place.  He is opening with the bat.  But playing as an opener in T20 cricket and scoring 20 runs off 19 balls makes it difficult to score impact runs.  Same is the case with Punjab.  However, Punjab scored 50 runs in the first 5 overs as Prabhasimran Singh scored a breezy 35 runs off 21 balls with some impressive strokes .  The team collapsed as soon as he was out.  Gujarat's spin attack began to control the game 


Sai Kishore took the most wickets for Gujarat.  He took 4 wickets for 33 runs in 4 overs.  Afghan spinner Noor Ahmed took 2 wickets.  Rashid Khan took a wicket.  Punjab's middle order collapsed as these three spinners picked up 7 wickets.  The lower order did not get runs either.  Pacer Mohit Sharma took 2 wickets.  Gujarat's bowlers have taken wickets as well as stopped runs.  As a result, Punjab could not score more than 142 runs.


 Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma gave Dhawan-less Punjab confidence with the bat in the previous few matches.  They also failed in this match.  Shashank scored 8 runs.  Ashutosh could not score more than 3 runs.  Both of them were dismissed by Kishore.  Punjab batters could not play big shots.  They hit only five sixes in the entire innings. Had Harpreet Brar (29) not batted bravely Punjab would have struggled to get 120 .


 Gujarat lost 5 wickets for 103 runs in the run chase and they too looked jumpy .  Despite going down with a small target in mind, Gujarat was in trouble. Saha (12) went cheaply again but Gill (35) and Sudharsan (31) held the innings together for a while . However their dismissals  brought Punjab in the game as Miller(4) and Omarzai (13) fell cheaply 

but Rahul Tewatia gave relief to the team by scoring 36 runs off 18 balls.  He left the field after winning Gujarat.    With 8 points in eight matches, Gujarat came up to number six and has kept their hopes alive for the playoffs .  Sai Kishore for his crucial 4 wickets was the player of the match .

Red alert of more heavy rains in Maharashtra, closures announced in schools, colleges in some districts

  It is raining continuously in many districts of Maharashtra.  The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for 4 districts, expressing the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in the state today i.e. on Thursday.  Keeping this in mind, a holiday has been declared today (July 27) for schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri and Chandrapur districts.  Orange alert of rain has been issued in Raigarh district.  In such a situation, the district administration will take a decision on the basis of the situation with Raigad district.  On the other hand, July 27 has been declared a holiday for all government, private schools, all colleges, all ashram schools, business and training centers within Panvel Municipal Corporation limits.  The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai as well as Thane, Ratnagiri and Chandrapur.  In such a situation, keeping in view the possibility of heavy rains, school students of class I to 12 of all medium

Heavy rains totally disrupts train services in Mumbai area, CM orders early closure of Govt Offices

  Due to heavy rains in Maharashtra, the speed of Mumbai local has slowed down.  Many trains have been cancelled and diverted. Due to heavy rains in Thane district adjacent to Mumbai, the track changing point on the Kalyan-Kasara route was damaged, due to which train services on this route were stopped on Wednesday afternoon.  A senior railway official gave this information.  The Central Railway also informed that it has diverted some mail and express trains on Diva-Panvel-Karjat route and Daund-Manmad route, besides terminating some trains between Mumbai and Pune.   Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday ordered that the government offices in Mumbai and the neighboring region should be closed early.
