IPL24: Dhoni cameo upstages Rohit ton as CSK beat MI in clash of the Titans

 


The much awaited  battle of the titans  Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings , both 5 times champions was played out at the Wankhede stadium on 14th April 2024 . After a grim battle in a high scoring game  the visitors  CSK beat the home side Mumbai Indians by 20 runs .


Losing the toss and batting , CSK started sluggishly losing Rahane (5) and Ravindra (21) cheaply but Ruturaj Gaikwad  batted fluently along with the belligerent  Shivam Dube as but got into an exciting 90 run stand in 8 overs . Ruturaj was playing his wide range of shots on delightful fashion as he smacked 69 off 40 balls with 5 sixes . On the other hand Shivam Dube was mostly dished out pace by the opposition but he came out with flying colours striking superbly  to race to 66 in just 38 balls with 2 sixes . 


After Ruturaj was dismissed by Pandya , Mitchell came out but struggled to get momentum and was out for 17 in the final over to Hardik . 


Dhoni then stepped out to the huge roar to play the final 3-4 balls and then he proceeded to hit 3 fierce sixes into the crowd and get 2 off the last ball to reach 20 off 4 balls and the CSK team reached  206 in 20 overs which is a competitive score but not a match winning one at the Wankhede. 



Mumbai started the chase in flying colours with Rohit and Ishan striking boundaries in quick succession . They reached 70 in 7 overs before Pathirana came to bowl and rattled the top order immediately getting Ishan (23) caught by Thakur and  Surya Kumar Yadav (0) caught at the boundary by Mustafizur brilliantly . 


Tilak Varma and Rohit hade a 50 run stand but Tilak (31) dismissal to Pathirana  made Mumbai  fragile again . Rohit by this time lost his momentum as he tried to force the pace while Hardik (2) faced 8 balls before getting out to  Deshpande . David (13) smashed 2 sixes but  could not sustain and got out to a slower ball from Mustafizur.  


Pathirana then came back for his final spell and yorked the dangerous Shepperd (1) . Rohit completed a valiant 105 in 63 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes but Mumbai fell short by 20 runs at the end. 


CSK bowlers made great use od slower balls to restrict the MI batters while Pathirana with 4/28 was outstanding fir CSK . He mixed slower ones with searing fast deliveries touching 150 kph and got his wickets . He was also adjudged the player of the match as CSK now reach 8 points in the points table to reach the 3rd spot while MI remain at 4 points and now really need a win in their nect game .

Olympics24 : Ten men India edge out Britain in tie breaker to storm into hockey SF

  India reached the Olympic hockey semifinals by defeating Britain in a shootout. The match ended 1-1 in regulation time, leading to a shootout where India won 4-2. India played with ten players for 42 minutes to secure the victory. In the semifinals, India will face the winner of the Germany-Argentina match. A win in Tuesday's match will ensure a silver medal for last time's bronze winners at the Paris Olympics. Following the advice of video umpire , Indian defender Amit Rohidas was shown a red card in the fourth minute of the second quarter for unintentional stick contact with a British player’s head. Video umpire Goyentzen suggested it was intentional, and South African field umpire Sean Rapaport recommended a red card, resulting in India playing the rest of the match with ten players.
