IPL24: Mumbai Indians get 1st win with explosive batting vs Delhi Capitals

Mumbai Indians finally won their 1st match of 2024 IPL season .  Hardik Pandya got his first win in IPL as MI captain.  Mumbai  Indians beat Delhi Capitals at home.  Batting first, Mumbai scored 234 runs under the influence of their attacking  batters.  Rishabh Pant's Delhi could not chase that massive score .  Delhi is under pressure after losing to Mumbai this time after losing to Kolkata.

Delhi captain Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first.  But the Delhi bowlers could not start as expected.  Rohit and Ishan were in a fiery mood in the power play.  They were playing big shots. Rohit hit 2 glorious sixes over mid wicket off Jhye Richardson.  75 runs were scored in the power play.  Rohit seemed to have chosen this match to return to form.  But Rohit's half century did not happen.  Rohit got out after scoring 49 off 27 balls off Akshar Patel as he was bowled .  He hit six fours and three sixes in his brilliant innings .

Suryakumar Yadav returned to play after a long time after recovering from injury.  But he did not get a run in the return.  He got out for zero runs after playing two balls.  After Rohit's dismissal, Ishan took charge of scoring runs quickly.  Ishan returned to Akshar's one-handed catch after a sparkling 42 runs off 23 balls.

Hardik started well but could not score quickly in the middle overs.  Tilak Verma was also dismissed for 6 runs.  At one time, it seemed that Mumbai would have trouble scoring 200 runs.  Hardik was dismissed for 39 off 33 balls.

David and Shepherd pulled the team from there.  Mumbai scored 84 runs in the last four overs.  Both the batsmen were playing huge shots.  David remained unbeaten on 42 off 21 balls.  Shepherd played the entire last over.  He hit four sixes and two fours against  Anrich Nortje.  32 runs came in the last over.  With Shepherd's blistering hitting , Mumbai finished at 234 for 5 in 20 overs.  The West Indies all-rounder remained unbeaten with a breathtaking 39 runs off just 10 balls

Chasing 235 runs, Delhi lost the wicket of David Warner early on.  Shepherd dismissed him after 10 runs.  Prithvi Shaw and Abhishek Porel pulled the team for the second wicket.  They were scoring at a healthy rate but to chase 235 runs, they needed continous big shots .  Prithvi scored a superb half century laced with sparkling strokes .  He was dismissed by Jaspreet Bumrah for 66 runs through a searing yorker that uprooted the leg stump .  Bumrah also dismissed Abhishek.  Bengal batsman scored  41 runs in a decent display .

Delhi needed 90 runs to win in the last five overs.  Tristan Stubbs was playing a blistering  innings on one side.  After the previous match, he caught attention in this match as well.  But the high asking runrate was steadily increasing.  Under pressure, Pant got out for 1 run.  Stubbs was playing smashing strokes . He scored another fifty.  But Stubbs got no one at the other end.  He could not win the team even fighting alone.  Delhi once again suffered from the lack of finishers.

In the end, Delhi's innings ended with 205 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.  Stubbs remained unbeaten on 71 off 25 balls.  Mumbai won the match by 29 runs.
