ISL10 : Mohunbagan fights back with 2-0 SF 2nd leg win & pips Odisha to final (3-2)
"No extra time or penalty shootout. Must win in 90 minutes." Coach Antonio López Habas told the boys. The players obeyed the Guru's words . The green and maroon brigade reached the ISL final with Sahal Abdul Samad's goal in injury time.
Mohun Bagan had their wirk cut out at Yuva Bharati on Sunday. Habas boys had lost 1-2 at Odisha's home ground. As a result, Mohun Bagan had to withdraw from ISL like this time if they did not win this match by at least 2 goals. But the league shield winners are made of a different breed . Forgetting the disappointment of losing the first leg of the semi-final, Manbir Singh & Co went for an all-out attack today. And that brought the success in 22 minutes of the match. Cummins' goal put the home favorites ahead. Pretratos' scorching shot was half saved by Amrinder and off the rebound Cummins slotted home in style . (1-0 (2-2))
Lobera's team tried to turn around in the second half. But Vishal stopped the almost certain goal and won the fans again. Roy Krishna, the green and maroon's biggest headache, missed an easy chance in such an important match. Mohun Bagan also failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities. When the 90 minutes of play are over, the match went into injury time, many assume that extra time will be the focus to decide the fate of the match. But Sahal proved all the equations wrong.
Manveer's extended ball touches Samad's head and gets caught in the net off his thigh (2-0(3-2)). And Mohun Bagan's ticket to the final was now a matter of time though Odisha tried very hard to score a goal in the midst of Yuva Bharati's enthusiasm. And once the final whistle was blown , it waa mayhem in the stands as the fan roar reached a cresendo .
Last time, the ISL trophy came to Mohun Bagan tent for the first time under the supervision of Juan Ferrando. Petrotos reached the threshold of repeating history once again. Mohun Bagan will hope to take home the trophy again after the league shield held by ISL's 'lucky' coach Habas. And that will complete the circle of the team's golden tour. Bagan fans cannot wait for the final now .
