South Africa script T20I series win over West Indies, DeKock player of the series
South Africa won their 3 match T20I series vs West Indies at home as part of the ICC World cup 2026 preparations . Their batters looked in good form & their bowlers delivered when it mattered . The West Indies registered a consolation win in the last game .
The 1st T20I played at Paarl saw the Proteas chalk up a comfortable 9 wicket win with balls to spare . West Indies batting first was given a fast start by Brendon King's quickfire 27 but lost wickets to slump to 95/5 before Shimron Heytmer (48) & Rovman Powell (29) did a superb rescue act to take West Indies to a decent 173/7 . George Linde (3/25) was the most impressive bowler for the hosts . In reply the South Africans put up a breathtaking batting display full of scintillating strokes with Pretorius (44) , skipper Aiden Markram (86 no) & Reckleton(40*) producing superb batting displays to win with 13 balls to spare . Linde was the player of the match .
The 2nd T20I played at Supersport Park was a high scoring contest with West Indies again batting first and putting on a great show. Brendon King's 30 ball 49 gave the tourists a great platform but the main show came towards the middle as Heytmer played spectacular shots in his rapid 75 off 47 balls and the real push came from Sherfane Rutherford with his brutal 57 not out of just 24 balls to propel West Indies to 221/4 in 20 overs - A formidable total. Maharaj did well in bowling (2/22). However the Proteas put on a glorious batting display. Markram(15) did depart early but the two Southpaw keepers Quinton de Kock & Ryan Rickleton put on a breathtaking batting dusplay full of spectacular shots to win on a canter with 15 balls to spare & seal the series . Player of the match Quinton de Kock executed breathtaking shots in his 115 off a mere 49 balls with 10 sixes while Rickleton remained 77 notout off only 36 balls as South Africa won by 7 wickets .
The 3rd game was a rain curtailed affair at Johannesburg with West Indies again battting first putting on 114/3 in 10 overs due to smashing knocks from Heytmer (48) & Shai Hope (48) . The Proteas had a 125 DLS target in 10 overs but fell short by 6 runs as they ended at 118/6 in 10 overs with DeKock (28) & Jason Smith (26) scoring quickly & others chipping in with small cameos . Motie with 3/17 was the player of the match. Quinton de Kock was the player of the series & South Africa won the series by 2-1 .
