Alcaraz beats Djokovic in 4 sets : A New King of the Australian Open

Coming from behind with remarkable composure, Carlos Alcaraz continued his dream run by conquering the Australian Open and asserting his dominance on the biggest stage. At the Rod Laver Arena, Novak Djokovic had briefly revived hopes of a historic 25th Grand Slam after taking the opening set, but those dreams were decisively shattered by the Spanish sensation. Alcaraz defeated the Serbian legend 2–6, 6–2, 6–3, 7–5 to clinch his maiden Australian Open title and complete a Career Grand Slam at just 22 years of age, becoming the youngest player in history to achieve the feat.

Reaching the final itself had demanded extraordinary resilience from Alcaraz. In the semifinals, he endured a gruelling five-and-a-half-hour battle against Alexander Zverev, while Djokovic’s path, particularly his win over Jannik Sinner, was comparatively less exhausting. This raised a crucial question: could the 38-year-old Djokovic still match the energy and intensity of the youthful Alcaraz in a Grand Slam final?

For a brief moment, the answer seemed to be yes. Djokovic looked every bit like his vintage self in the opening set, racing to a dominant 6–2 lead and evoking memories of his record ten Australian Open triumphs.

However, Alcaraz soon reminded the world why he is the current face of men’s tennis. He began breaking Djokovic’s serve with ruthless consistency while holding his own with supreme confidence. The Spaniard stormed back to take the second set 6–2, swinging the momentum firmly in his favour. As the match progressed, fatigue visibly crept into Djokovic’s movement, especially during the long rallies of the third set. Despite his relentless fighting spirit, the Serbian made a series of unforced errors under pressure, allowing Alcaraz to claim the set 6–3.

The fourth set was fiercely contested, with Djokovic desperately trying to keep the contest alive. For a while, a tie-break seemed inevitable, as both players exchanged breathtaking rallies and held serve under immense tension. But at the crucial moments, it was Alcaraz who held his nerve. Djokovic faltered with costly mistakes at the net and from the baseline, and Alcaraz sealed the championship 7–5.

With this victory, Carlos Alcaraz not only captured his first Australian Open crown but also etched his name into history with a Career Grand Slam. For Novak Djokovic, the wait for a 25th major title continues, while a new era in men’s tennis stands firmly under the reign of the young Spanish superstar.
