Wimbledon 2026 – Day 4: Swiatek and Rybakina Dominate, Dimitrov Rolls Back the Years, Fritz and Zverev Advance

The fourth day of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships featured commanding displays from several title contenders as the second-round action continued under sunny skies at the All England Club. Former champions and top seeds largely justified their billing, while a few thrilling contests kept Centre Court and the outside courts buzzing.

Women's defending champion Iga Swiatek delivered one of the performances of the tournament, brushing aside former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova 6-1, 6-3. Swiatek's superb movement, heavy topspin groundstrokes and flawless returning left Pliskova with little opportunity to dictate play. The Pole broke serve five times and wrapped up victory in just over an hour to book her place in the third round.

Former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina looked equally impressive, overwhelming American Caty McNally 6-1, 6-2. Rybakina unleashed a barrage of powerful first serves and clean winners from both wings, never allowing McNally to settle into the contest. The Kazakh remained one of the strongest contenders for the title with another emphatic straight-sets victory.

Sixth seed Amanda Anisimova survived a stern all-American challenge from Sofia Kenin, prevailing 7-6(5), 6-4 in a high-quality baseline battle. Anisimova fired 20 aces and produced her best serving performance of the tournament to earn a third-round meeting with Madison Keys, who defeated Britain's Katie Swan in straight sets.

Elsewhere in the women's draw, Jasmine Paolini, Marta Kostyuk, Liudmila Samsonova and Maria Sakkari all advanced. Samsonova produced one of the day's significant results by eliminating 15th seed Diana Shnaider, while Emma Navarro fought back from a set down before eventually progressing.

In the men's singles, former Wimbledon semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov produced a vintage display to defeat exciting Czech youngster Jakub Mensik 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. The Bulgarian displayed exquisite one-handed backhands, deft touch at the net and remarkable composure in the closing stages to register one of his biggest victories in recent seasons.

Third seed Alexander Zverev continued his impressive campaign with a comfortable straight-sets victory to reach the third round. His booming serve and consistent baseline play ensured there were few anxious moments as he maintained his pursuit of a maiden Wimbledon crown.

American Taylor Fritz, last year's semifinalist, dismissed compatriot Patrick Kypson 6-2, 6-2, 7-5. Fritz dominated the opening two sets with his powerful serve before overcoming a stronger challenge in the third to seal victory in just over two hours.

Fifth seed Alex de Minaur progressed with another efficient performance, while Frances Tiafoe recovered from losing the opening set to defeat Britain's Jan Choinski 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, 6-2. Italy's Matteo Berrettini, Jiri Lehecka, Flavio Cobolli, Alexander Bublik and Jan-Lennard Struff also booked their places in the third round, with Struff emerging from a marathon five-set encounter against Brandon Nakashima.

British hopes received a welcome boost as local favourite Arthur Fery defeated Finland's Otto Virtanen in four sets to become the lone home singles player left in the tournament after Katie Swan and Jan Choinski bowed out. Fery's composed all-court display earned warm applause from the Wimbledon crowd and set up a mouth-watering third-round challenge.

With four days completed, Wimbledon 2026 continues to build towards an exciting second week. Swiatek and Rybakina look in outstanding form in the women's draw, while Zverev, Fritz and Dimitrov strengthened their title credentials. Attention now shifts to Day 5, when top men's seed Jannik Sinner, seven-time champion Novak Djokovic, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka are all scheduled to return to the courts.
