England Women vs South Africa Women – Sciver-Brunt and Knight power England into World Cup final

England Women stormed into the final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 with a comprehensive 40-run victory over South Africa Women in the second semi-final at The Oval. After being put into bat, the hosts recovered brilliantly from an early collapse thanks to a magnificent partnership between captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight, before their bowlers produced a disciplined display to seal a place in the title clash against Australia.

England's innings got off to the worst possible start as South Africa's pace duo of Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp ripped through the top order. Wicketkeeper Amy Jones fell for 2, Danni Wyatt-Hodge managed 12, and Alice Capsey was trapped for 1, leaving the hosts reeling at 23/3 inside four overs. Ismail was outstanding with the new ball, while Kapp maintained relentless pressure from the opposite end. Ismail also created history during her spell by becoming the first bowler to claim 50 wickets in Women's T20 World Cup history.

With England in deep trouble, captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and the experienced Heather Knight produced one of the finest partnerships in Women's T20 World Cup semi-final history. The pair added a record 133 runs for the fourth wicket, completely changing the complexion of the match. Returning after missing three matches because of a calf injury, Sciver-Brunt led from the front with a superb 75 off 47 balls, striking boundaries all around the ground and keeping the scoreboard moving. Knight played the perfect supporting role with a composed 58 off 47 deliveries, ensuring England never lost momentum after the early setbacks. Their stand carried England to an imposing 169/5 in 20 overs.

South Africa's bowlers shared the wickets early, with Shabnim Ismail (2/31) and Marizanne Kapp (1/16) doing most of the damage in the powerplay, while Nonkululeko Mlaba also claimed 2/25. Despite those efforts, the Sciver-Brunt–Knight partnership proved decisive.

Chasing 170, South Africa needed a strong start but lost wickets at regular intervals against England's disciplined attack. Captain Laura Wolvaardt departed cheaply, and although Tazmin Brits battled hard with an excellent 51 off 45 balls, she found little sustained support. England's fielding was outstanding throughout the innings, with several superb catches and sharp ground fielding preventing South Africa from building meaningful partnerships.

England's bowlers maintained control from start to finish. Lauren Bell led the attack with 2/28, while Linsey Smith claimed 1/25. The spinners and seamers combined effectively to keep the required run rate climbing, and South Africa eventually finished on 129/8 in their 20 overs, falling 40 runs short of the target.

Nat Sciver-Brunt was deservedly named Player of the Match for her outstanding 75 from 47 balls, an innings that rescued England from 23/3 and laid the foundation for victory. The emphatic win sent the hosts into their first Women's T20 World Cup final since 2018, where they will meet defending champions Australia in a blockbuster title clash at Lord's.
