 Argentina huffed and puffed and finally came from behind to script a memorable win vs Egypt in an epic encounter of rpund 16 . Argentina will meet Switzerland . Switzerland beat Columbia 4-3 in tiebreaker after 120 minutes deadlock 0-0 .

Defending champions Argentina produced a sensational late comeback to defeat Egypt 3–2 in a thrilling Round-of-16 encounter at Atlanta Stadium, overturning a two-goal deficit in the final quarter of the match to book their place in the quarter-finals against Switzerland. Egypt looked on course for one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history, but Lionel Messi once again inspired Argentina when it mattered most. 


Egypt stunned the South American giants in the 15th minute when Yasser Ibrahim rose highest to meet a perfectly delivered corner and powered a header beyond Emiliano Martínez. Argentina dominated possession but found Egypt's defence, marshalled superbly by Ramy Rabia and Mostafa Shobeir, extremely difficult to break down. The Pharaohs doubled their advantage in the 67th minute after a swift counterattack. Mostafa Ziko latched onto Mohamed Salah's incisive through ball and calmly slotted his finish into the bottom corner, putting Egypt 2–0 ahead and leaving Argentina facing elimination. 


Argentina responded with remarkable determination. The comeback began in the 79th minute, when Cristian Romero climbed above the Egyptian defence to head home from a Lionel Messi corner. Four minutes later, Messi produced another moment of brilliance. After having an earlier penalty saved by Mostafa Shobeir, the Argentine captain collected a pass from Julián Álvarez, dribbled past two defenders and curled a superb left-footed strike into the far corner to make it 2–2 in the 83rd minute, sending the Atlanta crowd into raptures. 


With extra time looming, Argentina completed an extraordinary turnaround deep into stoppage time. In the 90+3rd minute, Messi slipped a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Enzo Fernández, who kept his composure before firing a low shot beyond Shobeir to seal a dramatic 3–2 victory. Egypt's brave resistance was finally broken, while Argentina advanced to the quarter-finals after one of the most memorable comebacks of the tournament.

Switzerland reached the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 1954, defeating Colombia 4–3 on penalties after a tense and hard-fought goalless draw at BC Place in Vancouver. Although neither side managed to score during 120 minutes, the contest was packed with drama, outstanding goalkeeping and several near misses before Gregor Kobel emerged as Switzerland's hero in the shootout. 


Colombia enjoyed the better attacking opportunities during normal time and almost broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Gustavo Puerta unleashed a fierce drive that Kobel brilliantly pushed away. Later, defender Jhon Lucumí came agonisingly close with a towering header that crashed against the crossbar. Switzerland gradually grew into the match through the influence of Granit Xhaka and Remo Freuler but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against Colombia's organised defence. 


Extra time remained an evenly balanced affair, with fatigue beginning to affect both teams. Switzerland's defence, led by Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi, stood firm whenever Colombia threatened, while Camilo Vargas produced several important interventions to keep the Swiss attack at bay. Neither goalkeeper was beaten during 120 minutes, sending the match to a penalty shootout. 


The shootout proved equally dramatic. Switzerland missed one penalty when Manuel Akanji was denied, but goalkeeper Gregor Kobel produced the decisive save by stopping Cucho Hernández's effort. Colombia's misery deepened when Davinson Sánchez struck the crossbar. That left Ruben Vargas with the opportunity to win the contest, and the Swiss winger calmly converted the decisive spot-kick to seal a 4–3 shootout victory and send Switzerland into a quarter-final meeting with Argentina. 


Result: Switzerland 0–0 Colombia (after extra time)
