England crush India by 125 runs to seal T20I series
England produced a ruthless all-round display to overwhelm India by 125 runs in the third T20 International at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series after the opening match was abandoned due to rain. The hosts excelled with both bat and ball, posting 201/7 before skittling India out for just 76 in 11.4 overs, handing the visitors their biggest-ever defeat in T20 Internationals by runs.
Asked to bat first, England overcame an early setback through an outstanding innings from Phil Salt, who once again demonstrated why he is among the most dangerous T20 openers in world cricket. Salt struck 70 off 44 balls, lacing his innings with eight fours and three sixes, while dominating the Indian attack with fearless strokeplay. Captain Harry Brook added a brisk 24, keeping the momentum firmly with England during the middle overs. India clawed their way back briefly with a cluster of wickets, but Sam Curran ensured there would be no late collapse. The all-rounder played a superb finishing knock of 41 not out from 24 deliveries, striking powerful boundaries in the closing overs to propel England to a commanding 201/7. Jacob Bethell and Liam Livingstone also made useful contributions as England collected 64 runs in the final five overs.
Chasing 202, India needed a flying start but instead suffered a dramatic collapse. Jofra Archer produced a fiery opening spell, bowling with pace in excess of 90 mph and removing key batters to leave India reeling inside the powerplay. Young debut sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who had impressed in the previous match, briefly thrilled spectators by smashing 13 off just 5 balls, including two huge sixes, before Archer dismissed him. Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer all departed cheaply as India's chase unravelled alarmingly.
With India already in deep trouble, Josh Tongue took complete control. The tall fast bowler extracted steep bounce and movement to rip through the middle and lower order, finishing with magnificent figures of 4 for 28. Archer claimed 3 for 29, while Will Jacks and Adil Rashid cleaned up the remaining wickets as India were bowled out for just 76, with only Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (13) and Tilak Varma (13) reaching double figures. The emphatic victory secured the series for England with two matches still to play.
India's batting line-up collapsed under relentless pace and managed only 76 all out, their lowest total against England in T20Is.
England's disciplined batting, clinical death-over acceleration and devastating fast bowling made this one of their most complete T20 performances in recent years. India, by contrast, endured a forgettable evening as their aggressive approach backfired spectacularly, leaving captain Shreyas Iyer admitting that his side had played "atrocious cricket." With the series already decided, England will now look to complete a dominant finish, while India will be aiming to restore pride in the remaining fixtures.
