USOpen25: Alcaraz , Djokovic secure contrasting wins to set up high voltage semis showdown

Carlos Alcaraz continued his imperious run at the US Open, sweeping past Jiří Lehečka in straight sets—6-4, 6-2, 6-4—to reach his ninth Grand Slam semifinal at just 22 years old, a feat matched only by legends like Nadal and Becker . Impressively, Alcaraz remained flawless, still yet to drop a set all tournament .

On the men's side, Novak Djokovic extended his dominance in the quarter-finals, defeating Taylor Fritz 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Although Fritz pushed back in the third, Djokovic held firm in the fourth to close out the victory, booking a high-stakes semifinal showdown with Alcaraz . This win also enhanced Djokovic’s record against Americans at the US Open to a perfect 16-0 .

In the women’s draw, Jessica Pegula continued to shine, dispatching Barbora Krejčíková 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals without dropping a set . On the other side, Aryna Sabalenka advanced via a walkover as Markéta Vondroušová withdrew, giving Sabalenka a pass straight to the semis .

Day 11 marked a shift in the tournament’s trajectory, as players geared up for the semis. The highlight fixture, of course, was set: Carlos Alcaraz vs. Novak Djokovic, promising a showdown between two of tennis’s most electrifying champions .

Furthermore, the women’s draw continued to deliver drama—matchups concluded high-profile clashes such as Naomi Osaka vs. Karolina Muchová, and Iga Świątek vs. Amanda Anisimova .

Separately, Barbora Krejčíková had pulled off a classic comeback earlier, saving eight match points to defeat Taylor Townsend 1-6, 7-6(13), 6-3, a performance loaded with emotion and resilience .

Looking Ahead

Alcaraz's fluid, all-around brilliance and Djokovic's steely composure have set the stage for what promises to be a thrilling semifinal encounter. Both have shown unwavering form—Alcaraz still hasn’t conceded a set, and Djokovic continues his historic march toward a potential 25th major .

On the women's side, Pegula and Sabalenka stand out as formidable contenders, backed by dominant performances, while the other side of the draw is stacked with veterans and rising stars ready to challenge them.
