Smriti glorious 100 helped India Women Crush Australia by 190 Runs to Level ODI Series

The Indian women’s cricket team produced a commanding performance on Wednesday, registering a colossal 102-run victory over Australia in the second ODI at New Chandigarh. With this emphatic triumph, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side bounced back in style to level the three-match series 1-1.

India’s dominance began right at the top with openers Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana setting the tone with aggressive intent. While Pratika departed for a brisk 25 off 32 balls, the spotlight belonged to Mandhana. The elegant left-hander unleashed a masterclass in stroke-play, racing to her century in just 77 deliveries—becoming the second-fastest Indian woman to score an ODI hundred. She eventually walked back after a scintillating 117 from 91 balls, an innings laced with exquisite timing and audacious shot-making.

Apart from Mandhana’s heroics, Deepti Sharma anchored the middle order with a composed 40 off 53, while Richa Ghosh chipped in with a handy 29. Sneh Rana scored a breezy 24.  Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, however, endured a lean outing, falling for 17. For Australia, Darcie Brown tried to stem the flow with 3 wickets, and Ashleigh Gardner bagged 2, but India’s innings still swelled to an imposing 292.

Chasing 293, the Australian batting line-up crumbled under relentless Indian pressure. Alyssa Healy was dismissed early for just 9 by Kranti Gaur, while Georgia Voll fell without scoring played on to Renuka Singh. Despite brief resistance from Annabel Sutherland (45) and Ellyse Perry (44), Australia’s batting collapsed spectacularly, folding for a modest 190. None of the other batters could muster any real defiance.

India’s bowlers were equally ruthless. Kranti Gaur emerged the pick of the attack with figures of 3 for 28, while Deepti Sharma’s crafty off-spin fetched her 2 wickets for 24. Arundhati Reddy also played her part, claiming the crucial scalp of Sutherland. The Indian fielding was comparitively better with some good catches taken though there were a few drops again.

This resounding win not only showcased India’s batting firepower but also underlined the depth and discipline in their bowling unit. With the series now level, the stage is perfectly set for a thrilling decider.
