India Women Win Hearts Despite series defeat against Australia chasing 413 in 3rd ODI

They may have lost the match & the series 2-1 , but Smriti Mandhana and her teammates won countless hearts with their fearless display in Delhi. Chasing an improbable target of 413 runs set by the mighty Australians, the Indian women’s team fought with remarkable spirit, refusing to be daunted by the daunting scoreboard. Even though the series slipped away with a 43-run defeat on Saturday, India’s courageous performance was a statement that they are gearing up strongly for the upcoming World Cup.

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Australia opted to bat first and got off to a flying start through openers Alyssa Healy and Georgia Voll. Healy blazed her way to 30 off just 18 balls before falling to Kranti Goud. Voll, however, combined brilliantly with the ever-reliable Ellyse Perry to stitch together a commanding 107-run stand. Voll’s scintillating 81 off 68 balls, complemented by Perry’s elegant 68, laid the perfect platform. But it was Beth Mooney who completely changed the complexion of the innings. With a whirlwind 138 off 75 balls, Mooney tore apart the Indian attack and ensured Australia powered their way to a colossal 412 runs.

For India, Arundhati Reddy emerged as the most successful bowler with three wickets, though she proved expensive, conceding 86 runs in 8.5 overs. Renuka Singh and Deepti Sharma chipped in with two wickets each, while Kranti Goud and Sneh Rana picked up one apiece.

Chasing such a mountain of runs, India too began with intent. Early heartbreak came with the dismissal of Pratika Rawal for just 10, but then Smriti Mandhana lit up the stadium with a breathtaking display of stroke-making. Unfazed by the massive target, Mandhana raced to a century off just 50 balls, rewriting records and showcasing her sheer class. She was ably supported by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (52), the ever-reliable Deepti Sharma (72), and a gritty lower-order effort from Sneh Rana.

Despite the gallant resistance, India’s chase eventually ended at 369 in 47 overs, falling short but leaving fans and experts equally impressed.

The result may have sealed the series for Australia, but India’s performance under pressure told a bigger story—this team is evolving, learning, and primed to take on the world stage with confidence and firepower.
