Asia Cup25: Bangladesh edge past Afghans, Sri Lanka survive Hongkong scare
The Group B situation in the Asia Cup 2025 has reached an exciting stage with all the 3 top teams having a chance to reach super 4 stage . Bangladesh played a tense game vs Afghanistan and finally managed to defend a modest 155 target while Sri Lanka got a real fright from Hong Kong China before sealing the victory by 4 wickets with 7 balls to spare .
Against Sri Lanka , Bangladesh batted first and started well scoring an impressive 59 in the powerplay . Tanzid Hasan batted superbly & scored at brisk rate in his 52 with the other opener Hassan hiting 30 . The middle order struggled to cope to the spin duo of Rashid & Noor & both took 2 wickets. Finally with Hriday getting 26 Bangladesh reached 154/5 in 20 overs .
Chasing the modest target Afghanistan lost Atal & Ibrahim Zadran cheaply but Gurbaz (35) played well. The middle order struggled to cope with the spin of Bangladesh in which Nassum & Rishad bowled well. Omerzai came out with intent of hitting & scored a brisk 30 in 15 balls till he was dismissed. Later Rashid with rapid 12 ball 20 raised hopes of an Afghan win but Bangladesh bowlers led by Mustafizur took timely wickets to give heartbreak to Afghanistan & thus Bangladesh won by 8 wickets .
In the previous game Sri Lanka suffered a scare against Hongkong China . Batting first HongKong led by Ashuman Rath (48) & Nikazat Khan (52) put up 148 in 20 overs . Sri Lanka were chasing comfortably with Nissanka scoring fluently for his 68 . Lanka was 119/2 in around 15 overs but soon lost 4 wickets for just 8 runs to reach 127/6 & suddenly Hongkong sighted an unlikely win. However the lower order ensured that there wont be any further damage & closed the game as Sri Lanka prevailed by 4 wickets.
As per the current points table all 3 top teams in group B have a chance to qualify to the next round . Afghanistan needs to beat Sri Lanka to qualify. Sri Lanka needs to avoid losing by 70 runs but if they lose by more than 70 runs then Bangladesh & Afghanistan go through .
