PSG decimate Inter Milan 5-0 & win Champions league 2025 in style
Press, press, and more press! Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) clinched the UEFA Champions League title by following this relentless mantra. On German soil in Munich, they faced Italy’s Inter Milan and crowned themselves the kings of Europe.
The last (and only) time a French club had lifted the Champions League trophy was back in 1993, when Marseille defeated another Milan side — AC Milan — also in Munich. Now, 32 years later, PSG has written its own fairytale at the same venue, demolishing Inter Milan 5-0. This is the largest margin of victory ever recorded in a Champions League final, a historic feat by Enrique’s team.
From the very first minute, PSG unleashed intense pressing football. When they had the ball, they moved it fluidly among themselves to build attacks. When they didn’t, players like Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hounded down the opposition with tireless energy. Inter’s goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, frequently struggled to play the ball out under pressure, and it was one such mistake that led to the opening goal.
In the 12th minute, after a slick exchange between Vitinha and Doué, an unmarked Achraf Hakimi received the ball in the box and calmly slotted it home. Interestingly, Hakimi did not celebrate wildly — Inter is his former club, and he gestured apologetically toward their supporters.
Inter barely had time to recover before PSG struck again, this time from a counterattack. The ball, initially deep in PSG’s box, was launched forward to Ousmane Dembélé, who sprinted down the field, facing four Inter defenders. Lifting his head, he spotted Doué unmarked on the other side of the box and sent a pass his way. Doué’s shot deflected off Inter’s Federico Dimarco, making it difficult for Sommer to react as the ball found the net.
Throughout the first half, Inter couldn’t manage a single shot on PSG’s goal. PSG dominated possession with 63%, using their pressing game to completely dismantle Inter’s plans. Even when Inter earned two corner opportunities, they couldn’t capitalize — headers by Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram missed the target. Notably, Inter had used set-pieces to beat Barcelona in earlier rounds, but this time, they found no success.
The second half brought little change. Although Inter mounted slightly more attacks, they couldn’t break through PSG’s defense. Meanwhile, PSG continued their relentless pressing. In the 62nd minute, Doué scored his second and PSG’s third goal, sealing the outcome. Again, Dembélé was instrumental, using a backheel pass to Vitinha, who then set up Doué to drive into the box and fire the ball past Sommer’s left. At just 19 years and 362 days old, Doué became the youngest player ever to score a brace in a Champions League final.
The remainder of the match turned into a PSG showcase. It felt as if they could score with every attack. Even with a 3-0 lead, they didn’t ease off defensively. In the 73rd minute, Dembélé set up Kvaratskhelia, who sprinted down the left flank, brushed past the defenders, and beat Sommer to make it 4-0.
In the 81st minute, Bradley Barcola had a golden chance to score the fifth after dancing through the Inter defense, but he sent his shot wide with only the keeper to beat. However, PSG didn’t have to wait long — in the 86th minute, Senny Mayulu hammered the final nail into Inter’s coffin with goal number five.
Five years ago, French fans wept tears of disappointment. This time, they cried tears of joy. PSG’s triumph marked the culmination of a relentless, brilliantly executed strategy and a night of football that will be remembered for generations.
