FrenchOpen25: Djokovic , Zverev set up Quarter final clash, Coco Gauff advances
Djokovic, Gauff, Zverev Reach French Open Quarterfinals; Pegula Knocked Out
Novak Djokovic has advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open, comfortably defeating Britain’s Cameron Norrie in straight sets in the fourth round. The 24-time Grand Slam champion won 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 to secure his place in the last eight, although he wasn’t at his fluent best. Djokovic committed three double faults and struggled with his first serve, but Norrie’s lackluster performance never really posed a threat.
Third seed Alexander Zverev also booked his place in the quarterfinals without much resistance. He was leading 6-4, 3-0 against unseeded Dutch player Tallon Griekspoor when his opponent was forced to retire due to injury, handing Zverev a walkover victory.
In the women’s singles, second seed Coco Gauff progressed to the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 7-5 win over unseeded Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova. Despite hitting four double faults, Gauff held her nerve to advance. Seventh seed Madison Keys also made it through, defeating fellow American and unseeded player Hailey Baptiste.
However, the tournament saw an upset as third seed Jessica Pegula was eliminated. Despite hitting seven double faults, French unseeded player Loïs Boisson pulled off a remarkable comeback after losing the first set 3-6. She fought back to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4, sending Pegula crashing out and marking a major surprise on Monday at Roland Garros.
