Best Places to Visit

El Nido

El Nido is Palawan's most famous destination, celebrated for its spectacular limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons, turquoise waters and hundreds of picturesque islands. Visitors can enjoy island-hopping tours to attractions such as the Big Lagoon, Small Lagoon, Secret Lagoon and Shimizu Island. Activities include kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving and sunset cruises.

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, this underground river flows through a spectacular limestone cave system before reaching the sea. Guided boat tours take visitors through impressive rock formations, cathedral-like chambers and colonies of bats and swiftlets.

Coron

Coron is internationally renowned for its crystal-clear lakes, dramatic limestone landscapes and exceptional diving sites. Highlights include the breathtaking Kayangan Lake, often regarded as the cleanest lake in the Philippines, and Barracuda Lake, famous for its unique thermocline. Divers can also explore several well-preserved Japanese shipwrecks from World War II.

Nacpan Beach

Located about 20 kilometres from El Nido town, Nacpan Beach boasts a four-kilometre stretch of powdery golden sand lined with coconut palms. Its calm waters and tranquil atmosphere make it ideal for swimming, sunbathing and watching spectacular sunsets.

Honda Bay

Honda Bay is famous for its island-hopping tours to beautiful islands such as Starfish Island, Luli Island and Cowrie Island. Visitors can enjoy snorkelling among colourful coral reefs, swimming in clear waters and relaxing on tropical beaches.

Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the middle of the Sulu Sea, Tubbataha Reefs is considered one of the world's finest diving destinations. It features spectacular coral reefs, sea turtles, reef sharks, manta rays and hundreds of marine species. Access is generally limited to liveaboard dive expeditions during the diving season.

Best Time to Visit

November to May: The dry season is the ideal time for island hopping, diving, snorkelling and beach holidays. Calm seas provide excellent visibility for underwater activities.

March to May: Warm, sunny weather makes these months perfect for beach vacations, although they are also the busiest tourist months.

June to October: The rainy season brings occasional tropical showers and rougher seas, though travellers can still enjoy Puerto Princesa and other inland attractions.

Local Cuisine

Palawan's cuisine is rich in fresh seafood and tropical flavours.

Fresh grilled fish, prawns, squid and lobster.

Tamilok – A local delicacy made from woodworms, often served fresh with vinegar.

Crocodile Sisig – A unique regional variation of the famous Filipino dish.

Seafood noodles and fish soups.

Fresh tropical fruits including mangoes, coconuts, pineapples and bananas.

Cashew nuts, one of Palawan's best-known local products.

Connectivity

Palawan is well connected to the rest of the Philippines and several international gateways.

By Air: Puerto Princesa International Airport is the province's main airport, with regular flights from Manila, Cebu and other Philippine cities. El Nido Airport and Francisco B. Reyes Airport (serving Coron) provide convenient access to northern Palawan.

By Sea: Ferries connect Palawan with Manila and nearby islands, while numerous boats operate between El Nido, Coron and surrounding islands.

Road Transport: Vans, buses, tricycles and rental motorcycles are the primary modes of transport within the province.

Internet & Mobile: Mobile coverage and internet services are generally good in Puerto Princesa, El Nido and Coron, though remote islands may have limited connectivity.
