Day 2 Eng v Pak Test : Robinson’s Rampage Puts England in Command at Lord’s

 



England seized a commanding grip on the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s on a dramatic second day, with their formidable pace attack ripping through Pakistan for just 110 before the hosts strengthened their overall advantage to 261 runs by stumps. 


England resumed at 248/9 and their last pair, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue, produced a valuable late flourish. Atkinson struck a brisk 45 off 46 balls, while Tongue remained unbeaten on 30 off 48, taking England to 290 all out in 66.4 overs. Their 47-run partnership proved highly significant on a difficult Lord’s surface. 


Pakistan's reply rapidly descended into a batting calamity. England's seamers exploited the movement superbly, with Ollie Robinson producing a devastating spell of 4/11 in 13 overs. Jofra Archer, operating with intimidating pace and repeatedly exceeding 90 mph, claimed 3/26, while Josh Tongue added two wickets. 


Only Azan Awais offered meaningful resistance for Pakistan, compiling a gritty 46. The rest of the batting order struggled against England's relentless pressure, and Pakistan were bundled out for 110, conceding a substantial 180-run first-innings deficit.  Babar Azam back in the XI as captain could score only 8 , Abdullah Shafique made 5  as England quicks were on the rampage. 


England, however, were not entirely comfortable with the bat in their second innings. Pakistan's bowlers struck twice early, reducing the hosts to 13/2 and later 43/3. Captain Joe Root made 26 before falling, but Emilio Gay, unbeaten on 30, helped steady the innings. England eventually reached 81/3 before bad light ended play prematurely. 


With England 261 runs ahead, the hosts are now in an ominously strong position to win at Lord’s and take an unassailable 2–0 lead in the three-Test series. Pakistan face a daunting task on Day 3, needing an extraordinary turnaround to prevent England from tightening their already powerful grip on the contest.
