UEFA Nations League 2026: September 28 - France beat Belgium, Italy get big win

 


 

The 2026/27 UEFA Nations League continued on September 28 with eight matches across Leagues A, B and C. The headline results came from Italy’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Türkiye and France’s late 1-0 win away to Belgium, while Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden and Montenegro also recorded important victories. 


France snatch dramatic win in Belgium: France maintained their perfect start in Group A1 with a 1-0 victory over Belgium in Brussels. The match appeared destined to end goalless before substitute Michael Olise produced a decisive moment two minutes from time, scoring a superb individual goal. France had previously defeated Türkiye 1-0 in their opening match, giving them six points from two games. Belgium, who had beaten Italy in their first match, suffered their first defeat of the campaign. 


Italy bounce back in spectacular fashion: Italy produced the most convincing performance of the day by defeating Türkiye 4-1 in Bursa. After their opening 0-2 defeat against Belgium, the Italians responded strongly, with Alessandro Bastoni, Davide Frattesi, Michael Kayode and Pio Esposito all finding the net. Türkiye managed one goal in reply, but Italy's attacking performance gave them a comprehensive victory and their first three points of the campaign. 


Montenegro edge Armenia in five-goal thriller: In League C Group 2, Montenegro defeated Armenia 3-2 in a dramatic encounter. Armenia had twice managed to respond to Montenegro's goals, but Aleksa Latković struck in the final stages to secure three points for Montenegro. The victory moved Montenegro to the top of the group after two matches. 


Bosnia and Herzegovina win six-goal contest: Bosnia and Herzegovina claimed an impressive 4-2 away victory over Romania in Group B4. The visitors produced a strong attacking display to take all three points, while Romania suffered their second defeat in two matches after their opening loss to Sweden. Bosnia had drawn their first match against Poland and therefore moved to four points. 


Sweden defeat Poland: Sweden continued their unbeaten start in Group B4 with a 3-1 victory over Poland. Having already defeated Romania in their opening fixture, Sweden now have six points from two games and sit at the top of the group. Poland, who had drawn 0-0 with Bosnia and Herzegovina in their first match, suffered their first defeat. 


Goalless draws in Group B2: Both Group B2 fixtures ended without a goal. Georgia drew 0-0 with Ukraine, while Northern Ireland and Hungary also finished 0-0. Northern Ireland had begun the campaign with a victory over Georgia, while Ukraine had beaten Hungary, leaving the group finely balanced after two rounds. 


Latvia and Cyprus share points: In League C Group 2, Latvia and Cyprus played out a 0-0 draw. Neither side could break through during the 90 minutes, leaving Cyprus with one point from two matches and Latvia still searching for their first victory. 


Overall, September 28 produced major developments in several groups. France moved to six points in Group A1, while Italy revived their campaign with a four-goal victory over Türkiye. Sweden also established themselves at the top of Group B4, while Montenegro's late win over Armenia put them in control of Group C2. The second matchday concludes on September 29 with major League A fixtures including Czechia vs England and Spain vs Croatia.

Manipur violence : Video of brutality relating to women in Manipur goes viral

    Manipur is in the grip of ethnic violence these days, but now tension has spread in the hilly areas of Manipur over a video in which two women are being paraded naked.  According to reports, the video is from May 4 and both the women are from the Kuki community, while the men who are parading the women naked are all from the Meitei community.  Tribal organization Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum has demanded action against the culprits.  According to the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum, the incident took place on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, about 35 km from state capital Imphal.  At the same time, no one has been arrested by the police in this case.  It can be clearly seen in the video that the men are continuously molesting the helpless women who are crying and begging them to leave.  Condemning this heinous act, an ITLF spokesperson demanded that the central and state governments, the National Commission for Women and the National Commission...
