Asian Games 2026: Day 7 — China Strengthens Lead, Japan Shines at Home as India get Kabaddi Double Gold

 



The seventh day of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on September 26 produced a series of memorable performances across athletics, shooting, squash, canoe sprint, e-sports and other disciplines. China continued to dominate the medal standings, while hosts Japan, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Thailand remained among the leading medal-winning nations. India also enjoyed a highly productive day, highlighted by a historic marathon silver, another shooting silver and a strong showing in kabaddi ( double Gold) and squash. 


China continued its remarkable run at the top of the standings. One of the country's major Day 7 victories came in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions, where Han Jiayu won individual gold with an Asian continental record score of 359 points. China also won the women's team event, with Han Jiayu, Zhang Liyuan and their teammate combining for 1,773 points — a Games record. China additionally completed a clean sweep of the three canoe-sprint events it entered on the final day of that competition. 


Japan produced two particularly memorable home victories. Ichitaka Yamashita won the men's marathon in 2:10:49, finishing ahead of India's Sawan Barwal and China's Feng Peiyu. Japan also celebrated an extraordinary e-sports triumph when 11-year-old Yuki Kurihara won the Puyo Puyo Champions gold medal. Kurihara defeated South Korea's Kang Dongshin in the final and became the youngest gold medallist in Asian Games history. 


South Korea continued to occupy third position and added further medals in shooting and canoe sprint. Kim Ji-eun won bronze in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions, while South Korea collected silver medals in the men's and mixed kayak sprint events. In the men's kayak single 500m, South Korea's Jang Sang-won finished second behind Uzbekistan's Shakhriyor Makhkamov. South Korea therefore maintained its strong presence across several sports despite not adding a large number of gold medals on the day. 


Uzbekistan strengthened its fourth-place position with an important canoe-sprint victory. Shakhriyor Makhkamov won the men's kayak single 500m in 1:43.642, finishing 0.791 seconds ahead of South Korea's Jang Sang-won. Uzbekistan ended the seventh day with eight gold medals, 17 silver medals and nine bronze medals for 34 medals overall, keeping it level with Kazakhstan in total medals but ahead on silver medals. 


Kazakhstan remained among the leading six nations, although much of its Day 7 contribution came through silver and bronze finishes rather than gold. Kazakhstan's Dmitriy Kholmogorov won bronze behind Makhkamov and Jang in the men's kayak single 500m. Kazakhstan also took bronze behind China and India in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions team competition. Its overall tally stood at eight gold, eight silver and 18 bronze medals. 


Thailand continued its impressive campaign in sixth place. The Thai contingent had already enjoyed a particularly productive athletics day with Puripol Boonson winning the men's 100m gold and the Thai women's sepak takraw team also taking gold. By the latest standings, Thailand had seven gold, six silver and eight bronze medals. 


India produced one of its most memorable days of the Games. Sawan Barwal won silver in the men's marathon in 2:11:37, ending India's 44-year wait for an Asian Games marathon medal. Japan's Yamashita took gold and China's Feng Peiyu won bronze. Barwal's performance also represented a national record. 


India added another silver in shooting when Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod and Ashi Chouksey finished second in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions team event with 1,763 points. China won gold with a Games-record 1,773, while Kazakhstan took bronze with 1,754. In squash, Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar secured bronze in mixed doubles. India also received important performances from Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh, who reached their respective squash singles finals, while the men's hockey team defeated hosts Japan 2-0 to qualify for the semifinals. 


The day also brought success in badminton and archery for India. Unnati Hooda defeated Indonesia's world No. 6 Putri Kusuma Wardani to reach the women's singles quarter-finals, while Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand progressed in women's doubles. In archery, Dhiraj Bommadevara topped the men's recurve qualification with an Asian Games record 698 points. Manipur violence : Video of brutality relating to women in Manipur goes viral

    Manipur is in the grip of ethnic violence these days, but now tension has spread in the hilly areas of Manipur over a video in which two women are being paraded naked.  According to reports, the video is from May 4 and both the women are from the Kuki community, while the men who are parading the women naked are all from the Meitei community.  Tribal organization Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum has demanded action against the culprits.  According to the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum, the incident took place on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, about 35 km from state capital Imphal.  At the same time, no one has been arrested by the police in this case.  It can be clearly seen in the video that the men are continuously molesting the helpless women who are crying and begging them to leave.  Condemning this heinous act, an ITLF spokesperson demanded that the central and state governments, the National Commission for Women and the National Commission...
