England Dominate Day 1 as Pakistan Collapse for 133 in Third Test

 


England produced a commanding display on the opening day of the third Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, bowling the visitors out for just 133 before reaching 156/4 at stumps. England therefore ended the day with a 23-run first-innings lead, firmly in control of the series finale. 


England, who had already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series, won the toss and elected to field. Their decision immediately paid dividends as Pakistan's batting imploded under relentless pressure from the seamers. Four wickets fell for only 26 runs, leaving the visitors in deep trouble inside the opening 10 overs. 


Pakistan's top order crumbles

Pakistan's top order once again failed to provide a platform. Saim Ayub was dismissed for a duck, while Azan Awais made 9, Abdullah Shafique 3 and Shan Masood only 5. Captain Babar Azam managed just 7, bowled by Josh Tongue, continuing his disappointing run with the bat in the series. 


Saud Shakeel offered the only meaningful resistance. The left-hander struck a fluent 43 from 47 balls, including seven fours, but his dismissal with Pakistan on 107/9 effectively ended their hopes of reaching a competitive total. Mohammad Abbas added 21, while debutant Razaullah contributed 11. 


Tongue leads ruthless attack

Josh Tongue was England's outstanding bowler, finishing with 4/42. He accounted for several crucial wickets, including Babar and Saud Shakeel.

Ollie Robinson was equally impressive with 3/15, while Jofra Archer claimed 3/25. Robinson's third wicket also brought up his 100th Test wicket, a significant personal milestone. 


Pakistan's innings lasted only 33.5 overs, underlining the severity of their collapse. Four of their top five batsmen failed to reach double figures, while only three Pakistan batsmen crossed 10. 


England wobble before Gay-Brook rescue

England's reply did not begin perfectly. Ben Duckett fell for 11, Jordan Cox was dismissed for 4 and, most significantly, Joe Root was removed for 6 by debutant Razaullah. Razaullah later claimed another wicket and finished the day with an encouraging 2/42 on debut. 


However, Emilio Gay and Harry Brook turned the innings around with a superb partnership. Gay compiled a confident 60, while Brook remained unbeaten on 52, guiding England beyond Pakistan's total. Their partnership was worth 104 runs, providing the stability England needed after the early setbacks. 


At the close, England were 156/4 in 39 overs, with Brook 52 not out and a 23-run lead already secured. A remarkable 14 wickets fell during the day, but England clearly finished with the advantage.

England's ruthless pace attack and the composed partnership between Gay and Brook left Pakistan facing another uphill battle. With the hosts already ahead on the scoreboard, England have seized complete control of the third Test after a sensational opening day.

Manipur violence : Video of brutality relating to women in Manipur goes viral
