RCB win 1st match of IPL2026 vs SRH in style
Reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru started their title defence in style in Bangalore by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets chasing down 202 in just under 16 overs to notch up full points in their 1st match .
RCB won the toss and bowled first and had SRH's powerful top order on the ropes in the powerplay as Jacob Duffy bowled well & used the short ball effectively to get Abhishek (7) & Travis Head (11) cheaply both out trying to play the pull shot off short balls . Nitish Reddy too fell to the pull shot and SRH ended the powerplay 49/3 but with Ishan Kishan looking in good nick .
Skipper Ishan Kishan had a very good partnership with Heinrich Klaasen as both shifted gears and played glorious cricketimg shots .Klaasen after playing some lovely drives finally fell for a fluent 31(22) to a controversial boundary line catch by Salt adjudged as out by the 3rd umpire .
Ishan Kishan meanwhile batted superbly as he unleashed an array of dazzling shots before finally falling to a great one handed catch of Phil Salt for 80 (38) . Later Anikhet Verma smashed an explosive 43 in 18 balls to take SRH past 200 as they ended at 201/9 in 20 overs . 3 wickets for Duffy & Shepherd for RCB.
In reply RCB did lose Salt (8) early to a high catch off a slower ball from Unadkat but in walked Devdutt Paddikal and from the word go he took on the SRH bowling to smash 4s & 6s in all directions with Kohli for company .
Paddikal scored a breathtaking 61 on 26 balls & after his dismissal skipper Rajat Patidar came out and blazed away to 31 off just 12 balls even as Kohli was hitting his brand of 4s & 6s after being dropped at 27 .
Kohli played some glorious shots particularly one straight hit for 6 as he rotated the strike and finally finished at 69 not out off 38 balls with David (16*) for company as RCB cruised to an easy win in 15.4 overs against admittedly a mediocre bowling attack of SRH .
Duffy for his 3/22 was the player of the match .
