Sir Vivian Richards, born March 7 , 1952 is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, hails from Antigua and was a dominant force in the sport during the 1970s and 1980s. - Richards made his Test debut on November 22, 1974, against India.

- He played 121 Test matches and scored 8,540 runs at an impressive average of 50.23.

- Known for his aggressive batting, Richards hit 24 centuries and 45 half-centuries in Test cricket.

- His highest Test score was 291 against England in 1976.

- Richards played a pivotal role in the West Indies' dominance during the 1980s, contributing significantly to their success.

- Notably, he captained the West Indies in 50 Test matches.


**ODI Career:**

- Richards made his ODI debut on June 7, 1975, against Sri Lanka in the inaugural Cricket World Cup.

- In 187 ODIs, he scored 6,721 runs at an impressive strike rate.

- His aggressive batting style was well-suited for ODIs, and he played crucial innings for the West Indies.

- Richards was part of the West Indies team that won the Cricket World Cup in 1975 and 1979. In 1979 final at Lords he rescued West Indies from 4 down for not many to a formidable 286 with himself scoring a dazzling 138 not out . 

- His highest ODI score was 189* against England in 1984. West Indies were 9 down for 160 in that game and from there he took the match in his control to play a brutal innings with support from last man Michael Holding 

- Richards was known for his ability to accelerate the run rate and make significant contributions in pressure situations.


**Bowling:**

- While not primarily a bowler, Richards bowled part-time off-spin.

- He took 32 Test wickets and 118 ODI wickets during his career.


**Other Achievements:**

- Richards received numerous accolades, including being named one of Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1977.

- He was awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Cricketer of the Year in 1976 and 1979.

Above all Richards was a part of an invincible West Indies cricket team that did not lose a test series from March 1980 till March 1995 . Richards retired in 1991 .
