Quinton de Kock’s Blazing 90 Floors India as South Africa Level the Series
South Africa turned the tables in spectacular fashion at Mullanpur, outclassing India by a commanding margin in the second T20I. Suryakumar Yadav may have won the toss, but fortune stopped favouring India right there. Tilak Varma’s gritty, tooth-and-nail fight went in vain as Aiden Markram’s men roared back to restore parity in the series.
After being skittled for 101 in the previous match, South Africa arrived with purpose. Suryakumar opted to bowl first on a batting-friendly pitch, expecting dew to play a role — but the plan backfired disastrously. Quinton de Kock and his partners unleashed a relentless assault on the Indian quicks. De Kock’s breathtaking 90 off 46 balls lit up the evening, while skipper Markram held the innings together with calm authority. DeKock unleashed a barrage of pull shots & went on to play a spectacular innings. Ferreira and Miller added unbeaten cameos of 30 and 20 to propel the Proteas beyond the 200-run mark. They absolutely destroyed the strong Indian bowling attack as Bumrah & Arshdeep leaked runs in gallons towards the backend .
India’s bowling unit, so sharp in the last game, crumbled under pressure. Jasprit Bumrah leaked 45 in his four overs, while Arshdeep Singh endured a nightmare — sending down seven wides in a single over and finishing with 54 runs against his name. Only Axar Patel (1/27) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/29) showed some resistance, but the damage was already done.
Chasing a daunting total, India faltered from the outset. The batting proved as disappointing as the bowling. Once again, skipper Suryakumar Yadav (5) and Shubman Gill (0) failed to fire — a worrying sign with the T20 World Cup looming. Hardik Pandya, the hero of the previous game, departed after a brief 20 in 23 balls . Tilak Varma stood tall amid the ruins, crafting a fighting 62 that threatened to revive India’s hopes. But with tail-enders collapsing in quick succession, the chase fizzled out with five balls remaining.
South Africa’s Bartman emerged as the wrecker-in-chief, grabbing four wickets and tightening the noose in the crucial middle overs.
With this emphatic win, the Proteas not only squared the series but also injected fresh intensity into the T20 battle — and issued a loud warning ahead of next year’s World Cup.
