India women race to 4-0 T20I series lead over Sri Lanka

 


India women take a commanding 4-0 lead over Sri Lanka women after the 1st 4 matches of the 5 match T20I series . Clearly the quality of the visiting Sri Lankan women has no comparison to the Indian women team which is a far superior team . Quality performances by Shafali Verma in batting & most of the Indian bowlers sealed the series for the Indians 

The 1st two matches were played at Vizag . Both were almost identical matches with Sri Lanka setting modest targets to India who chased down comfortably . 

In the first game at Vizag ,Sri Lanka batting first could manage only 121/6 with Vishmi Gunaratne top scoring with 39 & skipper Chamari getting out cheaply for 15 . India chased it down comfortably to win by 8 wickets with player of the match Jemima Rodrigues scoring a fluent 67 & Mandhana getting 25 . 


The 2nd T20I  again played at Vizag saw a similar match with Sri Lanka women batting first and scoring 128/9 with Chamari Athapaththu scoring a promising  31 . Harsha top scored with 33 while the Indian spinners  Vaishnavi & Charani taking 2 wickets each as they strangled the lower order .  The target was easily chased down  with Shafali Verma scoring a superb 69 runs in just 34 balls with Jemima supporting with 26 . India again won by 8 wickets . 


In the 3rd T20I  Sri Lanka again batted  1st & scored  only 112/7  with player of the match Renuka Singh getting 4 wickets & Deepti Sharma getting 3 wickets.  It was Shafali Verma show again as she scored a breathtaking 79 in 46 balls playing thrilling shots particularly in front of the wicket . Shafali's innings helped India to quickly chase down the score to win by 8 wickets with Harmanpreet (22no) in company .  India thus winning the series with a 3-0 unassailable lead .

The 4th match was the most entertaining one after 3 quiet games . India lost the toss and batted first . The Smriti Shafali show started for India finally . Both of them played breathtaking knocks . While Shafali scored her 3rd successive 50 , Smriti finally found her touch as she scored a magnificent 80 off 48 balls while Shafali smashing the opposition bowlers raced to 79 off just 46 balls with mostly shots in  front of the wicket  . Their magnificent 162 runs stand set up the game as Richa Ghosh came in and scored a blazing 40 in just 16 balls as India finally reached a mammoth score of 221/4 .

222 target was beyond the timid Sri Lanka batting lineup but today they should great positive intent . Athapaththu made 52 in 37 balls  while Hansini Pariera raced to 33 in 20 balls . The middle order had a few more cameos but it only delayed the inevitable as Sri Lanka  fell 30 short. Young 20 year old Vaishnavi Sharma took 2 wickets , bowling superbly while Charani took 2 wickets .

Smriti Mandhana was the player of the match as India lead the series 4-0
