Hardik , Tilak , Varun shines as India win 5th T20I & beat South Africa 3-1 in T20I series
Breathtaking batting by Hardik Pandya & Tilak Verma & masterful bowling by Jasprit Bumrah & Varun Chakaravarthy in tough bowling conditions helped India to beat a spirited South Africa by 30 runs in a high scoring 5th & final T20I of the 5 match series .
India’s victory in the final match at Ahmedabad, sealing a 3–1 series win against South Africa, certainly added another feather to the trophy cabinet. More importantly, it also helped shape what now looks like a near-complete blueprint for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Performers like Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson made strong statements, while Varun Chakravarthy’s spin proved lethal as the Proteas were bundled out for a 30-run defeat. India won the five-match T20I series 3–1, though concerns surrounding Suryakumar Yadav still persist.
Before this match, India were already leading the series 2–1, ensuring there was no risk of losing it. After losing the toss in the final T20I against South Africa, India were asked to bat first. Sanju Samson finally got his opportunity, thanks to Shubman Gill’s injury. The Indian innings got off to a commanding start through Abhishek Sharma and Samson. Abhishek scored 34 off 21 balls before getting out, while Samson was bowled by George Linde after a fluent 37 off 22 deliveries. Many believe this knock — featuring four boundaries and two sixes — was a fitting response to the sense of injustice he has often faced.
Tilak Varma continued his dream run, smashing 73 off 42 balls, which came as a huge boost for India ahead of the T20 World Cup. But when Hardik Pandya is in full flow, it is hard for anyone else to stay in the spotlight. He announced his intent with a six, racing to 31 runs off his first seven balls. One over from Linde went for 27 runs, and Hardik brought up his half-century in just 16 balls. He eventually fell in the final over after a blistering 63 off 25 deliveries. India finished with an imposing total of 231 for 5.
South Africa started in blistering fashion with Quinton de Kock playing breathtaking shots to start the reply on a very positive note. Though Hendricks (13) fell cheaply , Dewald Brevis joined deKock and both the batters executed fine array of shots to keep the match in balance . At 118/1 in the 10 over mark , South Africa looked on course for a great chase but Bumrah fonallybroke the dangerous stand by dismissing the ominous DeKock after the veteran played a sparkling knock of 65 off 35 balls with eyecatching strokes . Soon Brevis after an explosive 17 ball 31 perished and the middle order was tormented by Varun Chakravarthy who got 4 wickets , Miller (18) , Linde , Jansen & Bosch played cameos but no one could stay long enough to challenge the imposing target of 232. Bumrah with 2/17 & Varun Chakravarthy with 4 wickets were the pick of the bowlers .
