Sundar fireworks seal 3rd T20I for India vs Aussies, series 1-1
India defeated Australia by 5 wickets in the third T20I, thanks to impressive performances from Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, and Jitesh Sharma — all of whom got their first chance in this series. Batting first, Australia posted 186 for 6, but India chased it down comfortably in 18.3 overs, finishing at 188 for 5. Although none of the Indian batters scored big, their aggressive approach led by captain Suryakumar Yadav ensured a confident victory.
After winning the toss, Suryakumar opted to field first, and India started strongly on the Hobart pitch. Arshdeep Singh’s fiery spell reduced Australia to 14 for 2, dismissing Travis Head (6) and Josh Inglis (1). Captain Mitchell Marsh (11) also failed to make an impact, falling to Varun Chakravarthy. Mitchell Owen (0) followed soon after, also dismissed by Varun. Australia’s innings was revived by Tim David, who launched a counterattack alongside Marcus Stoinis. David smashed 74 off 38 balls with 8 fours and 5 sixes, while Stoinis hit 64 off 39 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes. Towards the end, Matthew Short contributed an unbeaten 24 off 15 balls (2 fours, 1 six), with Xavier Bartlett adding 3 off 2 deliveries.
For India, Arshdeep was the standout bowler with 3 wickets for 35 runs, while Varun Chakravarthy took 2 for 33. Shivam Dube also picked up one wicket for 43 runs.
Chasing 187, India got off to a brisk start through Abhishek Sharma, who scored 25 off 16 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Shubman Gill made 15, and Suryakumar Yadav contributed a quick 24 off 11 balls before falling while attacking. Tilak Varma (29) and Axar Patel (17) also played brief but aggressive knocks. With the top order failing to convert starts, debutant Jitesh Sharma and Washington Sundar took charge. Their composed yet attacking partnership sealed the win for India. Sundar remained unbeaten on 49 off 23 balls, striking 3 fours and 4 sixes, while Jitesh was not out on 22 from 13 deliveries, hitting 3 boundaries. Their unbroken sixth-wicket stand added 43 runs and took India home comfortably.
Nathan Ellis was Australia’s most successful bowler with 3 for 36. Marcus Stoinis (1/22) and Xavier Bartlett (1/30) took one wicket each.
With this victory, India leveled the five-match T20I series 1–1 after the first match was washed out by rain.
